NOVAAN, excellent. Please do let us know the difference you feel with the Hydra sail. I am wondering if you will notice the same things I posted about. _________________ Bryn Kaufman

The mast sleeve is extremely stiff, stiffer than any of the thousands of sails I've rigged. Luff curve is relatively straight until the mast nears the headcap, then it bends a lot making removal harder than need be.
Still no wind. |

dllee I have been using a 2 cam sail, so for me the mast is a pleasure in comparison.
It slides up my 4 and 6 Hydra with no resistance until I get to about 6" from the top.
Then I use the down haul to take it the rest of the way.
For me this is so much easier than sliding the mast up a cammed sail.
Removing the mast I have not noticed any resistance. The cammed sail is not hard to remove the mast either once you get it out of the cams, but it does require that extra step of popping the cams, then zipping them up again. _________________ Bryn Kaufman

Migrate West! The Stick has been blowing steady, if weakly, all week! |

Crissy also. Between Crissy & Stick, it's been sailable every day on 5.2 and foil and even 5.2 and a freestyle board. _________________ Kevin Kan

Great report Bryn!
What is your estimate of min windspeed you can get foiling on the hydra 6.0? (I know it is relative but I would like to hear your estimate).
Looking forward to some youtube videos of the Hydra!
Thanks

Hi Joe,
I would say under 10 mph.
Only the foil kites are slightly lower. Other kites won't come out in the lows the Hydra is going in.
Keep in mind I weigh around 155 lbs right now.
They have a Hydra 7.0 too. Not sure if that would get me 1 mph lower or not.
I decided to make 6.0 my largest sail. A 6.0 is more fun when the wind picks up slightly and goes to almost if not as low for me as a 7.0.
The foil kites have the low wind advantage still, but sometimes they do not come out because when the wind goes slightly lower they can no longer stay in the air. _________________ Bryn Kaufman

Hi Bryn,
Thanks for the info. I just got a Hydra 6.0 that I am using on a Naish 122 Hover. A very similar set up to yours and I weigh 155 too. I was wondering where you are setting up the footstraps, foil mast, and mastfoot measured from the back of the board? I have a feeling I don't have the optimal setup and might benefit from your experience. Thanks for any suggestions you can share!
