Something that you won't hear about on Fox news.

Quote:
Analysis: Low number of lung cancer deaths saved California more than half a billion
By Matt Levin | Oct. 24, 2018 | 2016 ELECTIONS, 2016 PROPOSITIONS, CALIFORNIA NEWS, HEALTH

California’s low rate of lung cancer deaths saved nearly 5,000 lives in 2014—and saved Californians at least $500 million just in that year, according to a CALmatters analysis in consultation with public health researchers. Those savings will likely grow into the billions of dollars in the decades ahead, experts say.

Earlier this month, a study from the UC San Diego School of Medicine found California’s rate of lung cancer mortality was 28 percent lower than the rest of the country in 2014, the most recent year of available data. The study’s authors attributed California’s low number of lung cancer deaths to the state’s early and aggressive anti-smoking initiatives.

If California had the same rate of lung cancer deaths as the rest of the country, on average, roughly 4,700 more Californians would have died in 2014. Those terminal patients would have cost an estimated $546 million in hospitalization expenses alone that year, according to a CALmatters analysis vetted by public health experts at UC San Francisco and UC San Diego. That does not include other expensive components of cancer treatment that don’t require hospitalization, or savings from non-terminal lung cancer cases.

Not the only effective government program in California that saves money. This will save more as time goes on.

Because of our effective state government, we are now a sanctuary state, which opens us up to new and forgotten diseases from foreign countries. So those wonderful numbers about lung cancer, will probably be replaced by the fore mentioned stuff.
Yes, quite effective.
Typhus anyone, that's becoming a hit lately.

Sigh, more too cool for school nonsense from NW. Did he drop out, or did they give him a diploma to get him off the campus?

NW takes two completely unrelated things, and infers that his anger about the second means the first is not real. He makes up several things--like exposure to diseases. He relies on a tiny scrap of evidence--typhus in homeless encampments--to express his hatred of immigrants. And he will type "illegal immigrants" at every opportunity, ignoring the fact that undocumented immigrants have a legal right to seek asylum.

Let's look at the facts--something NW is incapable of. There is a typhus outbreak in Los Angeles County--where there are about 55,000 homeless people. It is centered in downtown Los Angeles' skid row, and is spread by fleas. Of course, it was government sanitation programs that had eliminated typhus as a significant public health risk. I guess NW is blaming government for homeless increases, rather than business people like Trump and his daughter who shifted manufacturing overseas.

The second thing that NW infers is that somehow "illegal immigrants" are responsible for typhus, bringing the disease from Mexico--and justifying his prejudices. A few facts from the Los Angeles Times:

Quote:
In 2016, Latinos made up 27% of the county's homeless population; that number has rocketed to 35% in the last year. Latinos make up about 48% of the county's overall population. The percentage of white homeless people declined 2% in that time.

There would be a very large homeless problem in Los Angeles county, and lots of rats and fleas, without Latinos. But don't bother NW with facts--he is busy burnishing his biases.

Now that marijuana is legal, we will begin seeing the horrible results of Schizophrenia, paranoia and cancers due to prolonged exposure to the toxins. This will cost billions.

And of course NW is correct again. Diseases that we thought were eradicated are back. Thank you migrants.

I just love how NW demonstrates his deplorability at every opportunity. As well as his near illiteracy. Focus on what Trump scares you with, not reality. To Boggs point:

Quote:
The total economic cost of smoking in the US is estimated at more than $300 billion a year. This includes nearly $170 billion in direct medical care for adults and more than $156 billion in lost productivity due to premature death and exposure to secondhand smoke [2]. To offset some of this cost, state governments collect $25.8 billion each year from tobacco taxes and legal settlements [1]. How much can these costs be reduced by reducing smoking prevalence?

Ignore solutions if they had anything to do with the government. Blame immigrants. Rant.

Can you back that nonsense up doctor boggs. Keith Richards smokes all three and is still alive.

And where does the $4 per pack tax go??

Matty...we lose 480,000 citizens a year from smoking. That's 10X the population of Billerica MA...
You don't need to be a Philadelphia lawyer to do that math...
