Judging from the appearance and position of that 'snap', along with what looks like a little damage to the front left (in the picture) of the edge of the leading foil, it does suggest that he struck the bottom, whether foiling at speed or simply sub-planing in off the foil.
The clean break along the bottom of the board, and the torn more jagged split of the upper deck, just level with or a little behind of where the riders weight is supported, suggests that the leverage forces were simply beyond what the board was constructed to withstand. (i.e. a windsurfing board doing something on a suck it and see basis, for which was never really intended.)
If foiling is the 'coming thing' won't it take more than just a strengthening of the fin box? Aren't such boards crying out for proper full length rigid interior stringers in their construction, before they can be claimed as foil compatible? Wonder what Starboard will say about it (assuming they care). Be interesting to know! |

Is it just me or does it look like the mast is backwards?

yep. it is ... and the split must have been done on the beach. Certainly it did not happen while sailing in deep water! |

Bad design? Fuselage that now is bent should not fit the mast when backwards.. foil is thick forwards. Cavity should be asymetrical. I should learn to spell. |

That's a strong box! Imagine the riders spread while in the straps, ouch!
On a side note that board was amazing as a light wind freerider. Easily doubled my planing sessions in the 7.0+ range. _________________ *NEW* - Manu's Windsurfing Blog, The STORE! |
