Snowboard bases can be angled so both front and rear are the same or, forward or rear. A typical set up is 15 degrees positive front, 5 negative rear. Which ever foot is forward. |
Still doesn’t address the issue - how do you switch tacks if your feet are locked in bindings? You would have to sail switch stance on one tack. Or have one mast base on each end of the board and disconnect the rig and move it to the opposite end of the board each time you wanted to turn around.

Mounting the mast base 1/3 back from the nose , as suggested previous, would place it , between the bindings. Can’t see how it would work with it between your legs. Bottom line like said, remove the bindings. _________________ K4 fins

bred2shred: Anyone who wants to sail a snowboard as a snowboard (feet attached to snowboard bindings) needs a rig that doesn't have a mast attached to the board (such as a kite or an entirely hand held "wind wing").
For anyone using a windsurfing rig attached to a "snowboard," the snowboard style bindings are junk unless adapted to function like a windsurfing strap that allows the rider to sail by standing on the port or starboard side and one would be enough.
The mastfoot/base is placed about 1/3 or 1/4th of the way from the front. Which end is front doesn't change.
My first snow sailing was in Dec. 1994 on a toboggan I modified by adding 1/2" plywood to have something solid for the mastfoot/base. The wood screws attaching the plywood to the toboggan went in from the bottom. Now I have four boards for winter sailing: 2 ski sleds for snow sailing, one sled with skis or blades, and one sled just for ice sailing.
Anyone willing to pay the registration etc., can attend WISSA in Fond du Lac WI February 4-9. (http://wissa2019.com) I'm hoping to be able to be there. |

I don’t know why you are specifically addressing your response to me- you are reiterating exactly what I said previously.
If you want to use fixed snowboard bindings, then a traditional windsurf rig won’t work because you need to be able to switch sides to tack. I recommended a kite in my first post.
For snow sailing with a windsurf rig, you need bindings (really foot straps) that allow you to switch sides like a regular windsurf board.

bred2shred: I'm sorry, when I wrote my piece I had not looked at the messages for a day or so, didn't remember what your earlier comments said and I based addressing mine to you by looking only at your 11-18 comment at 19:24. I will try to be more careful next time. |

I was going to suggest the same thing - kite.
Not sure how you would switch tacks on a traditional snow board with your feet locked in the bindings.
