At that wind range it would be difficult to find a board that will do what your asking. If you got to get wet, just go out on your 130 and work on board and sail tricks.

The Phantom or CarbOne will be more fun in the 6-12 knot range, but will not likely plane earlier than your Blast. I have the Starboard Phantom 320 and a CarbOne. Both are fun in subplanning conditions and have a wide wind range. I will use a Ezzy Cheetah 8.5 and sail 5-20 knots. The Phantom is a short raceboard and is fun to "ride the rail" with the powerful daggerboard. A little more technical to sail than the Kona. The CarbOne is a fun cruising board and easy to sail and to teach others.

AG80 - what would you say the planing threshold is for your CarbOne + ezzy cheetah 8.5 and what is your weight?
Thanks
Joe

I had a Phantom 320 and if the 299 is similar it handles like a slow, wide raceboard. Perhaps slightly earlier planing than my Equipe but totally outclassed the rest of the time and turned like a truck. I use the Equipe with an 8.5 for warm evening lake sails, if it's +10 I'll foil.

The bonus to the foil is that under 10 I'll work on my light wind sail drills, over that and I'm flying.

I can't give a real accurate answer to your question about planing threshold, but can tell you that I will sail in winds of 10-15 mph and will pump the board onto a plane in the gusts with the 8.5. I also have a 115L board that can I can pop onto a plane at about the same wind speed, but not as much fun to sail when the wind drops in those on and off wind conditions.

At your weight (same as mine) a Ultrasonic / JP SLW will get you up and planning in 8-9kts with your 8.5
