It is with a heavy heart and a tear in my eye that I write, on behalf of the entire Weatherflow team, this dedication to my friend, colleague and iWindsurf / iKitesurf forecaster, Laura Green, who passed away on THUR DEC 6th, 2018 following a tragic windsurfing accident on the mighty Columbia River. We here at Weatherflow would like to recognize her years of service – a true labor of love. Respecting the wish of her family we did not reveal that Laura used the pen name ‘Crysta Young’ for her Gorge forecasts until after her memorial last Saturday on JAN 12th, 2019.
Laura lived a very full life with a long list of accomplishments. As the proprietor of “Body and Soul Massage”, she was a highly skilled licensed massage therapist sharing her healing powers with many. She also had a 20 year career with Mt Hood Meadows as a professional ski patroller and later joined the Snow Safety team in 2010 steadily rising to the position of Lead Forecaster. It was the perfect fit for an energetic, vibrant woman who loved skiing, extreme weather and being part of a cohesive team.
In April of 2010, Laura hit the ground running with Weatherflow / iWindsurf / iKitesurf and began producing daily wind forecasts under the pen-name 'Crysta Young'. She never wanted a spot in the limelight and decided that the notoriety just wasn’t something she felt comfortable with at the beach, in the grocery store, various social scenes, etc. She just wanted to produce the highest quality roadmap to local winds thru the Gorge and along the Oregon Coast - then share them with like-minded enthusiasts.
In addition to her careers as licensed massage therapist, ski patroller and wind forecaster – Laura was an exceptional dancer and gardener. She leaves behind a wonderful husband, John Hadley, and a stepson, Kyle, and a stepdaughter, Chelsea. Her influence reaches far and wide throughout the Columbia River Gorge as she quietly spread her message of positivity and adventure to all she came across.
The team here at Weatherflow / iWindsurf / iKitesurf would like to express our sorrow at the loss of a good friend, stellar employee and expert wind forecaster. We all feel lucky to have gotten the chance to briefly spin in the same orbit and we take away many valuable lessons from our time together.

Hi Everyone,
Please check out this film:
Winters Edge: Live like Laura: https://www.rei.com/blog/snowsports/winters-edge-live-like-laura
It turns out that REI, one of the worlds largest outdoor gear chains, was making a film about our Laura Green, aka Crysta Young. The intent of the film was to cover her life through the seasons but she died before they could film her wind forecasting, windsurfing, kiteboarding, kayaking and dancing achievements. So the film only could cover her ski related work.
Still, the film gives you an appreciation of how privileged we were to have Laura work for our company as one of our 14 meteorologists spread across the USA.
