I'm the opposite to Manuel in that I use a fixed roller bar. Not entirely sure why except that I like to know where the hook is at all times plus I find the way the fixed bar attaches keeps it from riding up.
I don't think I'd care about roller vs hook with smaller gear but bigger sails and foiling I prefer to be able to easily change sheeting angle.
It's also what I started with so familiarity is a factor. |

Makes no difference, you will adapt.
I've had both, at least 10 of each in 35 years of ws sailing waves, slalom, bump, and speed. Have sold over 200 of each in 24 years of working at shops. |

Yes, absolutely for a slider for me, it allows you to face the direction you are going not just with your face, but your upper body as well. It also helps when you are getting overpowered, because your rear arm has more bend giving you more leverage and strength, due to your hips not being squared up with the rig.
Hooking back up after a jibe has never been an issue, you know where the hook is w/o looking or searching, just as you would with a fixed hook, it doesn't slide back and forth all by itself, it's always where you left it.
My last two harnesses came with fixed hooks, I put slider conversions on them both, a fixed hook for me has become feeling sort of trapped.
Been using sliders ever since my last vest harness, 30 something years ago.
Most of my friends use fixed hooks, more of those on the market, and it really comes down to what you're used to. |

SEARCH on slider/sliding vs roller vs fixed bars. LOTS of useful threads and comments on 'em, with the consensus leading towards personal choice. (You couldn't get me on a hook OR or a sliding anything, for many reasons.) |
