trumps hate... His life of being a failure as a negotiator.

well, rare earth magnets are going to be removed from the US purchasing including from other nations who buy Chinese rare earth.

This will devastate many industries from consumer electronics, transportation, cell phones, to GEs advanced MRIs.

trump has unearthed a rare attack from another earth country.

BEIJING (Reuters) - China is willing to meet reasonable demand for rare earths from other countries, but it would be unacceptable that countries using Chinese rare earths to manufacture products would turn around and suppress China, its commerce ministry said.

That would be unacceptable, Gao Feng, spokesman at the Chinese commerce ministry, said at a weekly media briefing on Thursday, without identifying any country.

President Xi Jinping's visit to a rare earths plant last week had sparked speculation that China would use its dominant position as an exporter of rare earths to the United States as leverage in the trade war.

Rare earths are a group of 17 chemical elements used in everything from high-tech consumer electronics to military equipment.

ters) - U.S. companies are years away from challenging Chinese dominance of rare earth minerals due to a lack of domestic processing facilities, ensuring the Asian nation will maintain its near-monopoly on refining and powerful leverage in trade talks.

In an escalation of the trade conflict between the two countries, state media on Wednesday implied China could restrict rare earth sales to the United States, stoking fears about Beijing's role as a supplier.

Although, according to U.S. Geological Survey data, China contains only a third of the world's rare earth reserves, it accounts for 80% of U.S. imports of the group of 17 minerals used in military equipment and high-tech consumer electronics.

That is largely due to China's domination in processing. Efforts to build rare earth processing plants in the United States are still in the early stages and lack unified support from Congress and the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.

here is the present price to be paid for trumps negotiations. here is how much rare earth magnet materials are going up. again china is responsible for a huge majority of these materials and processing. these are for military applications as well as medical like MRI machines made by GE. Electric motors of all types.

Big deal.

China's Rare Earth Metals Aren't the Trade War Weapon Beijing Makes Them Out to Be

The U.S. imports 80% of its rare earth needs from China, but overall demand for rare earths in the U.S. is low. American demand accounted for just 4% of China’s rare earth shipments, totaling around $160 million in 2018.

Partly, that’s because most U.S. manufacturers that require rare earth metals have already moved to China. America’s remaining industries tend to import finished rare earth products, such as magnets, which are a trickier target for China to hit.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is seeking alternative supplies. At a site called Mountain Pass in California’s San Bernardino county, the only rare earth mine in the U.S. is back in operation. Once the world’s leading supplier of rare earths, today the mine simply ships unrefined ore to China for final processing. A conglomerate called MP Materials bought the mine in 2017 after the site’s previous owner, Molycorp, filed for bankruptcy, beaten on prices by China’s competitiveness.

your attention span is negligible. already posted, first china has said it will impose a blockaid from any company in the world that ships even finished product to the USA.

Second of all low level thinker, the defense contractors do not have their products in general made in China that would have the rare earths in them.

MP minerals cannot even process their mined minerals, they ship them to china to be processed. It will take years before they are able to do volume.
