I believe the fastest board / sail / fin combo is currently:

RRD gun 40cm (non production)
NP Evo 9 (5.4m)
Z fins speed ASY 7"

good for around 53knots - just need a custom made channel, a lot of wind and world-class ability

Well, I guess we'll have to sell our other 143 brands and models of sails and buy some a' them things. People have done stranger things based on ads.

It's not the gear, it's the man. Antoine Albeau has dominated slalom racing for a number of years on different brands.

One thing that helped him a lot to be the fastest in Luderitz in 2015 was that he had his private driver to drive him back to the start for more runs. Others had to wait until the shared truck was full, so A3 got a lot more runs in. He'd also been to Luderitz before (several times, IIRC), so he probably has done more runs in the channel than anyone else. Besides his talent and work ethics, that's a big part of his success - everyone gets faster as they become more familiar with the place, and more runs means more chances of catching the strongest gusts or the windiest period.

If you look at the other guys in the top-10 speed rankings, you'll see a mix of different boards, sails, and fins. The same is true for most slalom races.

I got the same skis as the guy that won the Olympics but other than that story they're not of much use to me.
