As a fellow VW-guy and former Syncro owner (86' QSW), I gotta wonder if they had any idea what they'd stolen! A Syncro van in that good of condition (I assume the diff. locks worked) is worth $$$, even if they parted it, worth serious $$$. But no, they tore up the interior for aftermarket equipment...wtf. Do you think you were targeted? Glad you got it back! _________________ Kansas City |

"Oh and they couldn’t remove my license plate so they tore it off leaving a circle of plate where I used the special bolts."
Very sorry for what had happened. It really sucks, especially at the beginning of the season. Many of us will keep an eye for you. In your case, I assume DMV would reissue replacement plate, right? |

Congrats on getting the van back! The van is such a rare beast!
Make sure to set up a Craigs List "watcher" that automatically scans CL for your gear using keywords. It will be easy to spot the listing as the morons that stole all your gear will be clueless as how to list it. They probably think they are surfboards. |

Thanks again everyone for keeping an eye out for my gear and the helpful sugestions here and in email. I don't have time to reply but I appreciate it.
The 107 Futura is a 2018 and the 97 Futura is 2017 so best to get them back then replace them.
I hit up coliseum and Laney flea markets, nothing. But if you were in need of stolen power tools you can have your pick!
I think I might know why my Van was targeted. Ok don't tell anyone but it's not a real Syncro! Asides from all the stickers, embossed side panel that says SYNCRO, being lifted and the posi rear end, the front wheels have no drive, my bad.
So my theory on why pro boosters went so out of their way to steal a car drive it here, leave it, then drive off with my van with a key that fits, was to likely send it to Mexico or overseas but when the boosters took it to the shop the boss was like "this isn't a Syncro, get rid of it".
Otherwise why not strip it? It has lots of valuable car parts. Stealing it for the windsurfing gear doesn't make any sense because it is so hard to sell and for how much? Not worth the risk.
I'm pretty much a hoarder so I still have all my past gear that hasn't broken like masts and booms. Did an inventory. I figure I should be on the water within 2 weeks after ordering key items. I should also know my insurance situation early this week.
Thanks,

Gear note:
All my sails - 5 Loft Oxygens and the NP Fusion all have the Red Tiki Guy 1 1/2 foot sticker on the top half of the sails.
Dead give away that they are mine.
Thanks,

Carl, you're overthinking it. They stole it because they're just a couple of stupid thieves. The fact that they didn't break a window doesn't make them high level, super organized crooks.
That van is your Precious ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iz-8CSa9xj8 )
to those idiots it was just a ride. |

A real nightmare, really!
About 5-6 years ago my wife woke me up in the middle of the night, told me I was obviously dreaming. After I cleared my head I said "no shit, somebody stole my van with all my w'surfing gear in it, and I was running after it!"
A freaking nightmare. |
