Skipping a hole would still keep you close to the center line.
How long/how many sessions does it take to wear out?
As long as you're wearing booties, how does it matter?
A friend of mine tapes his and he's barefoot.

Straps new are what I consider a fair market value. Price new set in stone, unless the shop has a discount sale.

Preference is much like redheads or blondes

I'll recheck when I'm home in a few days but I'm pretty sure I DO skip a hole (on that board) and they are still a little tight on the sides (which I prefer).

I get about a year out of them, say 40-60 sessions? That's when I've worn through the fabric. I still use them after but not with bare feet. Probably that's just the cost of doing business.

What tape is he using and where? I kind of think a slick/durable material would be better than the soft fabric they come with for bootie use. Something like polyurethane belt or similar. Perhaps I need to dust off my sewing machine.

Can you confirm the type of straps? Some straps have a thinner outer layer, those wear out fast.

From what I saw, my buddy just uses brown packing tape Shocked Shocked !!!

These are MFC, but I've done it to all of them.
I think I have a set of Chinooks that are going okay but I'm not 100% on how they fit.

Each strap is more or less wide. Did you check my vid near the end?

I'm using anti-rotation hardware (MFC, it's excellent), doesn't offer any half positions.
I ride onshore and side-shore waves, haven't been in proper offshore or side off yet. I have big feet and prefer to be as close to on centerline as possible, that means a deep foot insertion. I'm rarely getting hung up with the new booties (Solites BTW), but still wearing the strap edges.

you might try DaKine Primos or Tyrants. Tyrants are new(ish) to the lineup, but they are adjustable and go big. They're a bit wider than the Primos, and have a rubber construction like the Core Contours. I really like Core Contours, but they don't go super big. I've used Core Contours on by freestyle, wave, and bump boards for years, and like that they have a little bit of stretch as I ride with my foot all the way in. For foiling, I like them too, but would actually like them to be a little bit bigger, so will try Tyrants next.

Also have been riding stock Fanatic straps for a couple years now, too, and I find them very comfortable (I sail barefoot). JP and MFC straps for me were very uncomfortable... MFC from the get go, and JP seemed to wear out very quickly and start irritating the top of my foot.

YMMV

The Contours might be worth a try. I like the concept of a one-piece rubberized construction with asymmetrical design.
My feet aren't huge (sz 12) so they might work.

*edit* For foiling:
I prefer slightly wider opening with a tighter strap that just holds my toes. Slightly tighter than I'd have on a slalom board. I don't worry about them holding me to the board, I just want them for leverage.

P.S. forgot to say that the second paragraph only relates to foiling. For waves I want them tall. I'm sure I'll want tall for freestyle if I ever get there.

Contours are wide but Tyrants are HUGE!
Difficult for me to even have my toes across without being all the way in. Impossible to pull out and get better leverage to head upwind.
Speaking of big straps, does anyone know if the X-Lave open really big?
