I run the 30" ones.

If you run long lines; do you like them because you can get lower, or because you can get further out from the board?

Do you feel like you can brace up against the pull of the sail better?

I know some use really short lines. I don't feel I could keep from getting pulled over if I ran such short lines?

If you switched to short lines; how do you think it would affect your riding?

I run 30-32. Yes I like to get lower and further out for freeriding, probably not the current trend though. I feel I can position the sail sufficiently upright for efficiency.

As a beginner it might be best to run longer or adjustable lines. I use 22 inch lines and a seat harness. A bit difficult to slog around but, powered up, the short lines take 95% of the load for hands off or very lite grip pressure. Proper line placement is the key to more time on the water and less fore arm and hand pressure.

Most PWA guys are running long for both wave and slalom, only freestyle seem to run short and honestly they barely use them.

Line length is personal and affected by your wingspan.
I've seen it all across the spectrum, and anything from 20" to 34" can work well sone WE come in different sizes and shapes ..and experiences.

I can not figure out how someone could use 30" lines for recreational sailing. I'm average height 5'10", I think my booms are average height (shoulder height plus fraction), seat harness average hook height, free ride boards 5.0- 7.5. If I used 30" lines I could not sail in a position that my harness is taking up most of the force, my hips would have to be too far away, and then my arms would be too short. With 24" lines, I can schlog hooked in, but might have to hop to hook in or hook out when schlogging.

Are you long line users using really high booms (chin or higher) or some special stance or wide boards or narrow booms or what? I can't say my line length is preference, its the only way I can get it to work.

Yes big sails, high booms, wide boards, tall rider. I like comfort based on arm length that makes board and sail trim easy.

People come in different sizes and shapes.
Did you watch the Warriors game last night? Jim Barnett stated Draymond Greens wingspan is 7'3" !!
He is just over 6"6" tall.
My height is just over 5'10" with the same wingspan.
Should we use the same length lines?

I have a short wingspan for my height (5'11"), run a lowish boom (collar bone to chin depending), use a waist harness and use 30" lines for everything up to 7.0, although I do run 28-32" adjustable for raceboard with a 9.5
Lots of PWA guys who aren't tall run +30" even on wave gear.

I'm an inch shorter and have always used 24" lines spread 9" apart at the mounts for slalom, speed, upwind course racing, waves, and now for foil.
