With a decent air gap, color isn't very significant. I'd still use white for extra confidence on dead calm days. Westender's automobile temp test is how and why I choose white over silver when buying a car. A bare forearm and a full parking lot will convince you very quickly which is cooler. (I didn't evaluate chrome, like some board bags, because it's not a car color.) Realize, though, that any cloth roof will take a beating when it gets windy. I'd fasten it securely and all around ... not just at grommets.
Shade cloth (Google it) seems perfect for your application. It breathes, yet blocks up to 95% of uv and remains unharmed by it. It's intended for shading decks, gardens, boats, etc., and is widely available. I've used it with success for sun protection for WS gear, "jet ski", and my 11-foot-high van at 6,000 feet in very sunny and very windy New Mexico. |
