Foil Jibing - what is your preferred technique?

What foil and board are you using?
I'm on Naish.
Kevin on SS 74.
Mike Mc also.
Dom on JP 135 and blue NP.
Most racers on Tillo 90 and Mike's Lab.
Some on Starboard and long fusalage
CSC has Starboard and their rec alu foils.

Your problem isn't equipment or age, it is TOW. You live in a location where you get enough days on regular windsurfing that you lack motivation. Lock up your regular gear, give Kevin the key & tell him not to return it for a couple of weeks.

Naish 122 trust wing.
Foil set 2" back from marks.
Mast base centered.
Front strap fully forwards
Rear straps one hole back from front
Super easy to fly if board barely planes.
Most stable on a reach at highest speed
Least stable hard upwind, not quite Formula angles.

TOW is certainly one thing that matters. But it also matters how much you like to learn new stuff, and how willing you are to look like a fool while doing so. From the foil beginners I have seen, foiling seemed to "take" more with those who also dabble in freestyle. Compared to learning your first new school trick, learning to foil gives a lot more learning successes quickly! On the other hand, some guys who are in the "back-and-forth" category were less willing to try it, or if they tried it, less eager to get their own foil, even if they had some success and liked the feeling.

Wow, you nailed it. Every freestyler seems to foil no problem, part of leaning forward and unweighted back foot.
I'm opposite, running a 22cm fin on my wave board that has 2, 10cm sidebites.
17 days in, foiling is easy as long as I don't try a foiling jibe. I foil to almost downwind, wait for the board to drop, flip sail and try to pump back up, if the wind is at least 10.
But, guys like Kevin and MikeMc rip their jibes, never waver, always up on foil.
I'm not one for learning new things, since so many old things I used to do well.

That contraption is a shower suction handle that you can remove and position to where you want to under the board to ease carrying your foil gear to and from your launch . It may cause a bit of drag before the foil lifts but it's negligible. I do get curious looks from people and I tell them it's an emergency phone to the Coast Guard.

I too have the Naish 122. If you have not got one yet, I would recommend the Abracadabra system as it saves soooo much time in attaching & removing the foil. I have my foil set about 2" in front of the mark on the board & my mast base is set about 2" in front of the end of the mast track. This setup feels more like my Fanatic Skate. My footstraps, front & back, are set in the second hole back from the front. I weigh 170 lbs. I found that if I move the foil back & track forward the 122 sails more like a slalom board off the back foot, fine for flying but impossible to jibe.
