Is this what we pay for?

Currently doing what I thought was a harness hook ding repair on a board I bought used. It's two soft spots under the factory paint and stickers.
I get the sticker removed only to see putty covering a crack through the laminate. Sand off the factory paint to find the same damn thing in the other spot.

I can see using a little putty to fair a glass job that wasn't perfectly fair due to a dinged blank or whatever but this is clearly damage that happened in the factory between the glassing and painting stages.

How common is this on these boards we pay thousands for?

I would not expect that on a custom made board??

Expect? No. But it surely happens, sometimes quite seriously. I've seen new custom boards come ashore spewing water out of countless pinholes, others with the bottoms peeled off, finboxes coming out and rails opening up ... stuff happens.

Those pictures came out like crap, disregard.

Not a custom but name rhythms with "garboard". Just flabbergasted that they wouldn't throw a patch on if they punched a hole through the deck after glassing but before paint. Especially in an area where foot pressure (not to mention knees on a board this size) happens frequently.
Good news is that the gorilla glue injection plus 6oz patches seem good and solid. Unfortunately the previous owner did some hack job repairs on the rest of it that'll need redoing eventually.

How do you know that the previous owner did not do the damage in the pics and slap stickers over it? Seems to me that is more likely than the original manufacturer.

3M make a Marine putty that’s used to fill small voids, that as intended it works fine.

The one under the sticker was greenish. The point was that the laminate itself was broken then rather than being patched with cloth was simply filled over with something crappy enough I could chip it with my nail.

I'm familiar with the 3m stuff, that's what I used to fair the repair.

Maybe this was indeed crap. But it does remind me a bit of how old boards like the Fanatic Cats were built. I fixed a few holes in old longboards, and it seems they used a mix that just had short glass fiber pieces embedded a lot. Many of these boards have held up a few decades.
