A customer mailed:
Everyone was asking me today why outside the GG bridge was nearly zero, just inside the bridge was solid 25 gusting higher, Anita was gusting to 30. When I went down to Blunt it was much lighter than I was expecting and much lighter than it has been for the past week. I can’t explain it … Would make for some interesting forecast comments and maybe even a blog post. MS
This blog tries to answer the question and how I use hikes and balloons in places like the Marin Headlands, Angel Island and the Hwy. 92 gap to understand how extremely local winds can impact your sailing/kiting winds.
And the animation below shows the somewhat similar Hwy. 92 vs. San Bruno Gap wind battle. This is where I currently play with balloons when I am in the area.
Why play with balloons? Because the highest resolution models can not resolve these wind battles which leads to crappy forecasts.
