Eight of the fattest ten states went to Romney in 2012. Nine of the thinnest ten states went to Obama in 2012. Why is this? |

Let me help you out..
LA County has 10.2 MM people , with a 22% obesity rate so roughly 2.2M obese people.
Texas has a 33% obesity rate !!! Pretty incredible, but not surprising...and a population of 29 mm so roughly 10 MILLION Fat Texans to 2.2 MILLION fat LA folks. I'll move on to all the Southern and Mid Western states if you'd like me to... |

Surprise--Matty doubles down on stupid again. Here, from Fox News, are the ten most obese states:
Here's a look at the 10 most obese states in the U.S. and the percentage of obese adults living in that location, per Consumer Protect.
West Virginia (38.1 percent)
Mississippi (37.3 percent)
Oklahoma (36.5 percent)
Iowa (36.4 percent)
Alabama (36.3 percent)
Louisiana (36.2 percent)
Arkansas (35 percent)
For California, the obesity rate is 25%, making Matty, once again, sure of himself and dead wrong. But the trend is up--from 9.9% in 1990, and 18.7% in 2000. Unrelenting advertisement of poor foods like soda and fast food, and subsidy of sugar production is part of the problem. But so is a sedentary lifestyle, and the conscious choices of the computer software businesses to make their products as addictive as possible.
There is no doubt that the American diet is not healthy, and there is no doubt that sugar and red meat are the leading problems. Had Matty made a careful comment about the diet, and admitted that Boggs was right about the problems of red meat, there would have been nothing to comment about. I certainly agree that sugar in excess contributes to a host of physical problems, including diabetes.
Isobars is right about artificial sweeteners and their adverse effects. To that we can add many additives, estrogen-mimicking chemicals, and processing. The sugar in strawberry and other fresh vegetables is modest, especially compared to conventional soda and southern sweet tea--and provides nutritional value.
The classic debate between left in right is about what we should do about chemicals that harm our health, and increase the costs that the public pays through Medicare and other programs, to treat obesity and other conditions. Unfortunately, the conservatives in power for the last 40 years won't even agree to cut subsidies for sugar, much less more progressive ideas like limiting advertising or taxing products which impose massive costs on the public sector. Tobacco, sugar, and petroleum--all subsidized, all bad for your health, and all represented by some of the same pimps. |
