Artistic liberty if it was intended. Either way, it's ironically funny

wow the right wings so called whistleblower is a chinese agent of sorts... So does that mean the right wing are dictator communists at heart...

this is from a ultra partisan right wing hero's owned media...

Republicans’ Key ‘Whistleblower’ Indicted For ‘Working to Advance the Interests Of China’

Quote:
New York Post

The whistleblower Republicans said would expose the alleged corruption of President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden has been indicted on eight counts.

Gal Luft, who is the co-director of the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security think tank in Washington, D.C., was indicted in the U.S. Southern District of New York. The indictment was unsealed on Monday.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement:

As alleged, Gal Luft, a dual U.S.-Israeli citizen and co-head of a Maryland think tank, engaged in multiple, serious criminal schemes. He subverted foreign agent registration laws in the United States to seek to promote Chinese policies by acting through a former high-ranking U.S. Government official; he acted as a broker in deals for dangerous weapons and Iranian oil; and he told multiple lies about his crimes to law enforcement. As the charges unsealed today reflect, our Office will continue to work vigorously with our law enforcement partners to detect and hold accountable those who surreptitiously attempt to perpetrate malign foreign influence campaigns here in the United States.

Luft was initially arrested in Cyprus in February before skipping bail and going on the lam. He remains a fugitive.

Congressional Republicans who said they spoke with Luft about the business dealings of the Biden family told members of the press that he had gone “missing.”

“Well, we’re hopeful that we can find the informant,” Rep. James Comer (R-KY) said in May. “Remember, these informants are kind of in the spy business, so they don’t make a habit of being seen a lot or being high profile or anything like that.”

Luft has alleged that the Bidens received money from a Chinese energy conglomerate with ties to the Chinese government. He released a video on July 5 outlining his allegations against the First Family.

The eight counts Luft faces are: conspiracy to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act; conspiracy to violate the Arms Export Control Act; violation of the Arms Export Control Act (relating to Libya); violation of the Arms Export Control Act (relating to the United Arab Emirates); violation of the Arms Export Control Act (relating to Kenya); making false statements; conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act; and an additional count of making false statements.

Fox News Host Calls Out GOP For Ignoring Fact That IRS Whistleblowers Were Managed By Trump Appointees

Quote:
Fox News host Jessica Tarlov took aim at several misconceptions she saw swirling around the IRS whistleblower hearing on Wednesday, focusing on the fact that those whistleblowers reported to Trump appointees.

Tarlov was the last of the co-hosts on The Five to weigh in on the House hearing, in which IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler testified that their investigations into Hunter Biden were interrupted by “roadblocks.”

“And I hate to disagree – that’s a lie. I love to disagree with the table,” Tarlov joked.

“But there was a lot of new information elicited out of that. Ro Khanna, when he was questioning Gary Shapley, got him to admit that the, quote, ‘vast majority’ of cases like hunters that go before the tax counsel, they decide not to charge,” she began, adding:

He also got Gary Shapley to admit that he never said that Merrick Garland lied to Congress. So that’s a right-wing talking point.

There’s always a timeline problem. And this happened with the Twitter files, too. Well, I heard all about that pesky Biden administration that wanted to censor everyone. And then it turned out that the dates didn’t align and that it was the Trump administration.

“So Ziegler’s testimony and there are mainstream news outlets that are posting snippets of his testimony, not admitting the fact that the IRS investigators, when they were talking to appointees in the DOJ about going forward were Trump appointees,” Tarlov continued, not specifically naming those outlets – although notably cable news networks like CNN and MSNBC had focused on that point.

“It was Bill Barr, David Weiss, also a Trump appointee,” she continued as Judge Jeanine Pirro offered a groan.

“Mmmmm, it’s true,” Tarlov replied to Pirro.

Tarlov added of Weiss, who was responsible for the decision to charge Hunter Biden, “He said, that he was someone who shared his [Trump’s] vision for making America safe again.”

David Weiss, a federal prosecutor, has come under fire in recent weeks from the right for not pursuing harsher sentencing for Hunter Biden. Weiss has insisted he alone decided on how to charge Hunter Biden.

Yesterday the House loonies released the transcript of an interview with Hunter Biden's business partner. In a desperate effort to divert attention from Trump's crimes and indictments, the loonies are trying to impeach Joe Biden for having a son doing business trading on his famous and powerful father.

The essence of the interviews was that Joe calls his son every day, appears to know nothing of Hunter's business efforts, and they talk about the weather in the cities where they both are at the time.

So we now know that Joe continues to love his surviving son, despite his problems with substance abuse. The loonies are having trouble conflating that into any grounds for impeachment--but that will not stop them.

I wouldn't hire, or vote for, Hunter Biden. He is trying to make money from his father's power--something I don't much like or approve of. He's not terribly successful at it--especially compared to Trump's son-in-law's massive pay off from the Saudis. But it is not a crime, and it doesn't involve Joe.

Sad commentary on what used to be the grand old party and is now the home of the Aryan brotherhood, grifters that hope Trump will pardon them, folks wanting to roll back the civil rights movement, and those from the old party who can stomach the above.

Democratic lawmakers say if Hunter Biden 'has committed crimes, he should be charged'

Quote:
WASHINGTON — Democratic lawmakers took aim at their Republican colleagues on Sunday over GOP attacks against the Department of Justice’s appointment of a special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden and their lack of criticism of former President Donald Trump as he faces three indictments.

“If Hunter Biden has committed crimes, he should be charged with them. I’m a Democrat saying that,” Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “You don’t hear any currently elected Republicans saying that if Donald Trump committed crimes, he should be charged with them and held accountable.”

Most Republican lawmakers have denounced Trump’s various criminal cases, accusing the Department of Justice and prosecutors of political favoritism in favor of Democrats.

so te associate who claimed he was at the important meeting in a whattsup message a few days after said he was not at the meeting. Hmmm I say lock him up. lock him up for lying to authorities.

Hunter Biden seeks DOJ probe into former business associate Tony Bobulinski

Quote:
President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden is urging the Justice Department to investigate a former business associate named Tony Bobulinski over claims that he lied to federal investigators during an interview in the weeks leading up to the 2020 presidential election, according to a criminal referral letter obtained by ABC News.

Attorneys for Hunter Biden wrote last month to Matthew Graves, the U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C., accusing Bobulinski of deliberately mischaracterizing his relationship with the Biden family "for the sake of maligning the character and reputation of [Hunter] Biden and his family, and to boost his own sense of self-worth."

Bobulinski, a retired Naval officer and self-described global businessman, came forward in October 2020 with allegations that the Bidens had lied to the public about the nature of then-candidate Joe Biden's involvement in his son's proposed overseas business ventures -- a claim promoted at the time by former President Donald Trump and his allies.MORE: Hunter Biden pleads not guilty to federal gun charges
According to Abbe Lowell, a lawyer for Hunter Biden, Bobulinski repeatedly misled investigators about his contacts with the Biden family and the extent to which Joe Biden stood to benefit from proposed foreign business ventures during a voluntary interview at a FBI field office in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 23, 2020.

"Even in an era in which people peddle knowing lies with the goal of their falsehoods being repeated and disseminated for their political advantage, these statements by Mr. Bobulinski cannot and must not go unchecked," Lowell wrote.

Bobulinski told investigators that he attended a February 2017 meeting with Hunter Biden, the president's brother James Biden, and other business associates in Miami, where the parties hashed out the details of a prospective joint venture with a Chinese firm, according to FBI interview notes that were recently released by the House Ways and Means Committee as part of its investigation into the Biden family.

The discussion at the meeting in Miami precipitated an email Bobulinski fired off in May 2017, according to the FBI notes, in which he infamously proposed a 10% cut for the "the big guy," an apparent reference to Joe Biden.

But according to Lowell, Bobulinski was not present at the February 2017 meeting in Miami and "was not ... privy to any discussions." Lowell cited WhatsApp messages Bobulinski sent days after that meeting to another business associate expressing frustration that he was not invited to attend the meeting.

In fact, according to the communications described by Lowell, Bobulinski was even not aware that Hunter Biden was part of the joint venture until nearly a week after the Miami meeting.

"This was all done to advance a debunked conspiracy theory that somehow Joseph Biden was involved in [Hunter] Biden's business venture with [the Chinese firm], including as Vice President," Lowell wrote.

The criminal referral letter appears to double as a mechanism to publicly push back against some of the lingering claims Bobulinski made about the Biden family, including his infamous allusion to "the big guy," which Republicans have cited as evidence of the president's involvement in his son's overseas work. Lowell characterized this allusion as "wishful" thinking on the parts of Bobulinski and another team member. The proposed joint venture was never actually funded, and the Chinese firm ended up forming another joint venture with a competitor.

Bobulinski shared a statement rejecting the contents of the criminal referral as "patently false" and accused the Biden family of "trying to weaponize the DOJ against me."

"If Hunter Biden and the Biden family are so determined to ensure that the full truth is put before the American People, Hunter, Jim, Joe and I should all appear together before Congress, publicly and under oath," Bobulinski said in the statement. "They can name the date, time and place and I would certainly be willing to do that for the American people."

The timing of the criminal referral also aligns with reports that Bobulinski may soon be called to testify as a witness before the House Oversight Committee as part of its impeachment inquiry into President Biden.

Bobulinski made waves in the hours leading up to the final presidential debate in 2020 when he convened a short press briefing in a Nashville, Tennessee, hotel ballroom to air details of his alleged involvement with "the Biden family, including Joe Biden."

Bobulinski's pre-debate event set the stage for a series of attacks Trump leveled against Biden when the two squared off later that night.

"Somebody just had a news conference a little while ago who was essentially supposed to work with you and your family, but what he said was damning," Trump said. "And regardless of me, I think you have to clean it up and talk to the American people."

Biden shot back: "I have not taken a penny from any foreign source ever in my life."

Special counsel fails to tell GOP members what they wanted to hear

Quote:

When previous special counsels have answered congressional questions, they’ve done so after the completion of their investigations. This has always made sense: Federal investigators, working independently, can’t comment on ongoing probes, so it stands to reason that they’d remain silent until their examinations are complete.

This week, however, offered an unprecedented exception. NBC News reported:

Special counsel David Weiss, who is overseeing the investigation into Hunter Biden, told the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday that he was not thwarted from advancing charges against the president’s son.

To briefly recap for those who might benefit from a refresher, Weiss has been investigating Hunter Biden for several years, and after Joe Biden began his presidency, the Democratic administration made a point to leave Weiss in place. The Trump-appointed prosecutor was pursuing a case against the president’s son, but Joe Biden and Justice Department officials agreed that the right thing to do was to allow Weiss to continue his work.

Over the summer, Attorney General Merrick Garland elevated Weiss from the role of a U.S. attorney investigating the president’s son to a special counsel investigating the president’s son. Congressional Republicans requested that this happen. They then complained bitterly when it did happen.

But that’s not all GOP members said. Weiss has also been at the heart of a variety of partisan conspiracy theories, which led to his closed-door testimony before Chairman Jim Jordan’s House Judiciary Committee.

“At no time was I blocked, or otherwise prevented from pursuing charges or taking the steps necessary in the investigation by other United States Attorneys, the Tax Division or anyone else at the Department of Justice,” Weiss told lawmakers, according to prepared remarks obtained by NBC News.
t interfere with my decision-making authority.”

Weiss further confirmed that he’s had no direct communications with the attorney general, except for his written request in August that he receive special counsel status.

Or put another way, the assorted ideas GOP members have clung to for months were thoroughly rejected by the Trump-appointed prosecutor.

Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu of California described the Q&A with Weiss as “stupid“ and unnecessary. Democratic Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon of Pennsylvania added that the hearing was “a farce” and “an absolute waste of time.”

Trump not Biden got money from over 12 countries: Dem reveals as GOP drafts impeachment inquiry

Quote:
As House Republicans race to cobble together legislation to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, Democrats are pointing to ex-President Donald Trump, who appears to have engaged in the activity the GOP is accusing the current president of, despite having spent almost a year and been unable to provide any actual proof.

Republicans, who are pushing to hold an impeachment inquiry vote on Wednesday, claim that President Joe Biden took money from foreign countries via his son Hunter’s business dealings. They have, as some Republicans admit, found no direct proof of their allegations.

But as U.S. Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez (D-NM) told House Republicans during the Rules Committee markup of the legislation on Tuesday, Donald Trump actually did take money from foreign countries during his time – as President – a claim even Republicans have not made against Biden.
Referring to Hunter Biden’s former business partner Devon Archer, who testified in a closed-door session before the House Oversight Committee, Congresswoman Fernandez explained, “if you actually look at that transcript, Mr. Archer was very clear that while the father [Joe Biden] may have talked to his son, they never ever talked about business.”

“They never ever talked about financial matters,” she continued. “And in contrast, when we were looking at issues about family business, I would like to enter into the record. Mr. Chairman, I seek consent to enter into the record, a [unrecognizable] that says Trump taxes show foreign income for more than a dozen countries.”

Rep. Fernandez appeared to be referring to a Politico article from December of 2022 that says: “Donald Trump’s tax returns show the former president received income from more than a dozen countries during his time in office, highlighting a string of potential conflicts of interest.”

“Trump’s returns,” Politico had added, “disclosed income from 2015 to 2020 from a wide range of foreign countries, including Canada, Panama, the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, the Philippines, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom, among others.”

Fernandez explained, “I think this is our objection. I think that it is important you are making a big deal of the fact that Joe, that Joe Biden, as a private citizen, a lot of these things that you’re talking about happened when Joe Biden was a private citizen, but more importantly, that his brother and his son were separate.”

“They did not have, their businesses were not commingled. It’s very clear from the evidence that they were separate. They were not the same. In contrast, we know from this article that says, Trump’s tax show foreign income, ‘Donald Trump’s tax returns show the former president received income from more than a dozen countries during his time in office,'” she said, emphasizing the fact that some of that income came while Trump was President.

Investigation: Trump businesses received millions from foreign governments

Quote:
In the not-too-distant past, the Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution was relatively obscure to the public. Donald Trump changed all of that.

As we’ve discussed many times, the clause prohibits U.S. officials from receiving payments from foreign governments. Traditionally, this hasn’t been much of a problem for sitting American presidents. During the Trump era, however, it became one of the Republican’s under-appreciated controversies.

While serving as president, Trump owned a hotel that sat roughly a half-mile from the White House, which hosted international officials with some regularity. As we’ve discussed, the result was a dynamic in which foreign governments spent quite a bit of money at a Trump-owned property, to the benefit of the then-American president and his private-sector enterprise.

The Republican had some vague understanding that the Constitution prevented him from receiving payments from foreign governments — Trump referred to the legal provision as “phony“ for reasons he never explained — but he did it anyway.

The former president has sold the hotel, but the scope of his alleged wrongdoing continues to come into sharper focus. The New York Times reported:

Donald J. Trump’s businesses received at least $7.8 million from 20 foreign governments during his presidency, according to new documents released by House Democrats on Thursday that show how much he received from overseas transactions while he was in the White House, most of it from China.

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee unveiled the results of an investigation in a lengthy, 156-page report called “White House For Sale.” Relying on documents from Mazars USA, Trump’s former accounting firm, congressional researchers determined that the Republican’s businesses received “at least“ $7.8 million from 20 foreign governments.

What’s more, the scope of the examination was relatively narrow: Oversight Committee Democrats focused only on four Trump-owned properties — Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in New York, and Trump World Tower at 845 United Nations Plaza in New York — and only covered two of the four years he was in the White House.

In other words, foreign governments might also have poured money into other businesses owned by the Republican — while he was in office — but those expenditures weren’t included in this investigation.
