Greetings Boardsailing Community!
PSA #7: 3rd Ave Levee project update -- important, please read, especially important since its a flood tide this week.
The sheet piles (large corrugated iron sheets) are currently being installed on the water side of the Bay Trail from the San Mateo Bridge to Baywinds lower launch. The sheet piles already close off the last two ramps closest to the bridge and at the rate of installation they should close off the ramp at “Last Chance Beach/Inktome Beach” sometime in the next week or so, leaving only the ramp at the windsurf launch across from the tanks and the one just downwind (East) of the lower launch unblocked. We also believe that a large hole has been dug where the “tanks” windsurf launch and the trail meet in preparation for the new viewing platform and ingress/egress that will be built.
If a water user finds themselves downwind of the lower launch and can’t walk back via the water due to higher tides, and therefore exit the water via a ramp, they will be trapped on the ramp and will need to be rescued by the Fire Dept by calling 911.
The City is planning on installing different color flags at each ramp so the water user can inform 911 of their location.
Please ensure you are making responsible choices and can effectively navigate the changing conditions and tides. If you need to brush up on your self-rescue techniques, please review the video link from the Safety Conference and practice those skills in a safe environment:
