Hi Gang,

Below are images and an animation to illustrate the complex forecast for the Peninsula today.

Mike

The strongest winds focus mid Golden Gate to Berkeley and the 3rd Ave. Channel as well as Waddell.

Mike filling in for Kerry this week:

Note: 3rd. Ave. folks, remember, if you own a Tempest weather station you can go to the following link and see all 24 of our Tempest wind senors between the launch site and Half Moon Bay. Look at the WNW vs WSW wind in the area within one mile of the launch and the strength of the WSW wind coming from HMB. Alternatively look at the strength of the San Leandro Offshore sensor. The stronger and more W. those winds the worse the 3rd. Ave. launch site winds. Tempest link: https://one.weatherflow.com/map#37.546,-122.321,12,845330

Update: At 11:30 AM the earlier forecast looks on track. There is still dense fog on Ocean Beach and on the Golden Gate with a dense fog streamer crashing into Angel Island but not so much the Slot and there is lots of fog coming over the Sausalito hills indicating that there is still a tiny eddy between the Golden Gate and Stinson Beach. I expect the eddy to mostly fade but its southerly flow still helps the Pt. Isabel and Berkeley corridor while working with the Stockton gradient to make the 3rd. Ave. launch site winds a bit unreliable early on.

Update at Berkeley....
Egads, it's bad.
If you think yesterday was light, today's lighter wind looks well S of Dwight...maybe Carlton.
Shore to 3rd buoy looks 10. With much lighter holes.

It's still early for 3rd Ave. Channel.

Our Tempest sensors close to the 3rd. Ave. launch site are looking promising.

Our Berkeley Reef Nav. Aid sensor is already reading WSW 17g20 so still hope for Berkeley. The winds may turn SSW on the water which causes the Pt. Isabel and Berkeley sensors to read low compared to the water.

Good catch, Mike...
Early sailors got skunked, but the 3pm crew caught 12-18 mph pretty much.

Mike, how do non-Tempest sensor owners get access to the readings from the
Tempest sensors?

Hi Madmanex,

Since I get it free I have never had to open an account. I suspect it is only open to the 55,000+ customers who have bought a WeatherflowTempest weather stationfrom Amazon or from our website. But check with support at this site and see if there is a way to get an account.

Incidentally the Tempest can run a smart house turning on things like AC and irrigation system based upon the exact weather at your tempest and tempests in your neighborhood. My Tempest has more than paid for itself in water savings from our veggie garden and landscaping.
