We hear you! And were working as hard as we can to get over these growing pains.
> Slow to load
Its true that iwindsurf is more graphics-intensive than windcall. The average overall page size is about 30% larger than the same size on windcall. However, our new ISP is much faster than the old windcall ISP was. Download times are faster than ever from every test weve done.
However, for some reason that were looking into, some versions of Netscape are especially slow to display some pages. However, its not the download time - rather its the HTML content of the pages.
Were addressing this with a low-res version of the site where page size will be significantly smaller and will load faster.
> No logic to the navigation & links.
The navigation paradigm of iwindsurf is designed to be *better* than windcall. But it is *different*. Where windcall was very vertical - iwindsurf is more horizontal. This means that with windcall you had to start at the top and drill down to what you wanted. If you wanted different info or a different location, you had to go back to the top and drill back down.
With iwindsurf, once you get to a site, everything you need is one click away: forecasts, tides, yesterday, etc. Also, nearby sites are just as close-by - use the switch site drop-down menu to see what I mean.
Weve found in beta testing that while it takes some getting used to - the information is actually much easier to find on iwindsurf. Hopefully, once you get used to the new paradigm, youll agree!
> Tide info missing
This is not true. We have all the same tide info on iwindsurf that we had on windcall. The difference is that theres no top level tides page. But if you want tide info for Crissy Field, for example, just go to that site like you normally would. Once you get to the wind-info page, theres a link on the left-hand side for Tides. If we dont have tide info for a site that needs it, let us know (content@iwindsurf.com).
> Cluttered with ads
With the exception of the Solo Sports button ad, we have exactly the same number of ads per page as we did on windcall. The rotating boxes that look like ads on many pages are actually internal links that point to other sections of the iwindsurf site. The reason we do this is to let you know about other areas of our site that you may not know about.

Yes, this is a legitimate gripe that we are working around the clock to rectify. Its related to our switch from one ISP to another and the accompanying DNS and other issues that shouldnt be there but are.
We know there are issues with the new site, and were listening to all of your input. Thanks for bearing with us during these growing pains. I know youll be happy with the end result.

Get a better computer, and a DSL line. I think your complaints will cease. |
