I am a beginner/intermediate (can water start and learning to jibe) sailor looking to test out the Hudson river near Kingston or lower this summer. If anyone knows much about sailing on the Hudson River, best spots, or other lakes near New Paltz, NY, Id appreciate it. I am also looking to get out on weekends. I heard up by Kinston there is a good spot on the west side of the river. Anyone sail there?

Andy, I only just located your post from last April 2000. Below Newburgh at Plum Point is an Orange County park that is across from Bannermans Island. You can see the north dock of West Point, the US Military Academy, and the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge. The site is used by some windsurfers, alot of Sunfish sailors, some power boaters moor there. There are porta potties and a County Rec Building is on the hill. Plenty of parking & picnic tables. Good sized grassy area to rig your sails too. Hope you see this, Ill try to leave a message as well. Im spent. |
