Most of the basis book have very little information on local winds that windsurfers are interested in. One of the best books that really covers the surface and upper level conditons that produce wind is the Mariners Weatherf Handbook. It is pretty introductory but it really focuses on wind.. It is writen by Steve and Linda Dashew. It can be ordered at http://www.setsail.com/products/mwh/mwh.html

It is about $60 but the web site will probably convince you it is worth the money. One caution...after 12 years forecasting 7 days a week and probably reading a hundred met. books and countless arrticles I can assure you forecasting is much harder than you can imagine. I havent quit my day job yet!

I donthink forecastings all as tough as Godsey makes it out to be. You just push a few computer buttons, or your wx radio button if you live in an unpowered cave, and ... viola! ... theres a forecast.
