If you could choose between a DROPS 9,00 106 ltr race board and the Northshore Maui 280 105 ltr slalom board, which would it be? Anyone familiar w/these? Tell me which one you would choose, why & your sailing style. Thanks. |

Here is my opinion, but I am sure there are people out there with more knowledge on these boards.
If you are slalom sailing, in conditions of 6.5-5.0, both boards will work. But I think the characteristics of the DROPS is going to make it harder to control. Check the manufactures specs (maybe web site), to see how steep the rails are and how flat the board is (I assume very flat). Compare this against the North Shore.
IMHO, I would pick the North Shore, for the following reason, I know these boards are excellent, and very strong. If it is a slalom design, then most likely it has softer rails than the race board, and therefore easier to jibe. Perhaps a slight bit more rocker, which would make it easier to control in choppier conditions.
I know DROPS has a great reputation, but so does NS Maui.
hope this helps. |
