I had a 97 4Runner with the stock rack. I was very dissapointed with the attachment method for those racks (Yakima or Thule, they both attach to the rails the same way). There is a little off-set washer like thing that you insert into the track. It turns and stops, then you tighten it up. It is OK for skiis and snowboards, but you cant really put a load on it. After a trip to Hatteras, I found one complete side (front & back) had completely disconnected iteself. You could lift one whole side up. Who know what would have happened had I hit something. If you have the stock rack, get a trailer, or limit your load.
