I am from the cape, but living in Hawaii now, does anyone know the status of kiting on the cape and the vinyard? Regulated access? good spots? I want to plan a trip there in july. any info would be great.
thanks

There are lots of kiters on the Cape, its a great place for it. Dennis beaches are pretty much ground zero for Cape kiting, West Dennis has a whole bunch of regulars and theyre an accepted part of the scene. WD is good on anything from the south. When its blowing from the north everybody heads over to the bay side Dennis beaches - Chapin, Mayflower, etc. If theres any wind at all theres good kitesurfing
on one of the Dennis beaches. Just stay out of the sunbathing areas and away from the windsurfers - other kiters will point you towards the best launches.
Kiters seem less welcome at Kalmus cause of congestion and the dreaded marthas vineyard ferry.

Right on, thanks for the tips. Hopefully if everything goes well I will get 2 weeks of wind there in the beginning of July(it is always hard to leave Hawaii, especially in the summer when the trades are blowing every damn day).
Thanks again, see you out there!!

Depends on direction of wind,
If it is a north-east wind state beach has good swell, side on winds. Other wise the prevailing direction is southwest. Southwest means flat sailing at state beach side with off wind. there is a shallow pond behind state beach (remember the lagoon in the movie Jaws?, same pond) you can sail there if that is what you are looking for. Depends on what you are looking for. Tashmoo is fun if the tide is right, Located in vinyard haven off dagget ave. There is a rip in the middle of channell that gets good swell and chop. Menemsha is also is good in southwest up island, more chop. Wave sailing at Squibnocket up island in chilmark, or south beach edgartown once in a while.
Hope this helps |

how about orleans, eastham, wellfleet area? I went to nauset HS so thats my hood Hopefully I will get to do some riding up there without crowds, there are miles of sandy beaches on the bay side, and if the wind and waves are cooperating, the ocean side could be a cold fun time. Anyone want to meet in the beginning of July if so, reply to this post.
Have fun riding!!
