Oh no heres one better, you could move to Kailua and give kite lessons behind the millon dollar homes on the beach. Lots of guys are doing it and making some good bread at it one guy they call the kitesurfing guru is this old german kook, I think hes over 55 years old, ? / > , < |

Move to a hot spot (e.g., Maui, the Gorge), get a REAL job, and just rub noses with the industry. That way you can rub up against the industry without being dependent on its seasonal and overall job security risks.
I spent a summer testing gear for a windsurfing magazine for free, which led to a half-time testing and writing job with the mag, which included some great trips and endless sailing, which was great except for two things: 1) the pay was meager and 2) they ultimately stiffed their employees. But for five years it was a great gig as long as I wasnt trying to LIVE on it.
MANY sailors/surfers move to Maui or the Gorge and subsist until a real job shows up. Some actually make an acceptable living at it. The sports inventor made $10,000 from the sport. The guy who MARKETED the sport made many millions. Your mileage may vary.

The only way we will all be able to make our living out of windsurf some day is by putting more sailors on the water and showing them that what we are all so ecxited about. So my recommendation is for you to encourage and teach as many people as you can to learn how to wind surf. I started that way a few years ago and now run a small wind surfing school.
You should always have a plan B though or a real job on the side!
