Kids rigs and boards

Hi all,

I sail in the NY , Long Island area and am looking to get my 8 yr old son and 10 yr daughter started in windsurfing. What is the best size sail for them? 2.4,2.8 ,3.2M? assume < 90 lbs. Whats the best kind of board to start them on? Longboard? (have really old HyFly 100) or shorterboard? And if shorter where does one get a short kids board?

All advice appreciated.

Mistral has a Kids Rig (Mistral Start (I think)). They co-sponsor a bunch of Kids intro sessions around the country with local shops. You can find the ad in windsurf magazine. It will give you the name of the shop in your area that sponsored the Intro session.I went to the session in July in LongBeach. Once the session is over can they flog the rigs cheap ($400 if I remember right). There is a good chance that the shop in your area still has a couple of used rigs to sell.
In any event,the sail choices were like 2.8 and 3.0. The 6-9 year olds were on the smaller sails.

Thanks .will keep your advice in mind when i buy my sons rig and check out the Mistral intros. Just bought pacific 2.8M+boom+mast new $129 from The House which seems like a good deal.
