...strong winds tonight across eastern massachusetts...rhode
island...and southeastern new hampshire...
strong northeasterly winds gusting as high as 40 kts will continue
through tonight as rain moves over eastern massachusetts...rhode
island...and southeastern new hampshire. most of these winds will
fall below wind advisory criteria...though a few gusts may exceed
40 kts. aside...because of the fully leaved trees...winds up to 40
kts will be enough to bring down trees and tree limbs. in
addition...any holiday decorations that are not tied down will
likely be blown around.

...strong thunderstorms will impact suffolk and eastern nassau
at 916 pm edt...national weather service doppler radar was tracking
strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 9 miles south of
branford to center moriches to shinnecock hills to east
hampton...and moving west at 50 mph.
people in suffolk and eastern nassau counties...including
westhampton...bridgehampton...east hampton...shinnecock
hills...mastic beach...manorville...davis
moriches...sag harbor and riverhead...should monitor the weather
situation closely. listen for possible warnings and be prepared to
take appropriate action should severe weather threaten.
gusty winds up to 50 mph are expected with these storms. in
addition...very heavy rain...with rainfall rates of up to one to one
and one half inches an occurring with these storms. this
could cause ponding of water on roadways... and minor flooding of
poor drainage areas.
lightning is one of natures number one killers. remember...if you can
hear are close enough to be struck by lightning. move
to safe shelter immediately.
