...elevated risk of wildfire spread today into early this
evening...

there is an elevated risk of wildfire spread today into early this
evening across northeast new jersey. this is due to relative
humidity levels dropping to near 25 to 30 percent, and frequent
wind gusts of 30 to 35 mph. while much of the area received near a
quarter inch or less of rainfall on wednesday, the gusty winds
and low relative humidity will allow fine fuels to dry out
quickly. similar conditions are likely on friday with wind gusts a
bit lower.

...elevated risk of wildfire spread today...

there is an elevated risk of wildfire spread today across
southern connecticut. this is due to relative humidity levels
dropping to 25 to 30 percent, and frequent wind gusts of 30 to 35
mph. while much of the area received one-quarter to one-half inch
of rainfall on wednesday, the strong winds and low relative

...enhanced risk of wildfire spread this afternoon...

a combination of dry and windy conditions will create an enhanced
risk for the spread of wildfires across new jersey and delaware
this afternoon. minimum relative humidity values are forecast to
be around 25 to 30 percent this afternoon, with wind gusts in
excess of 30 mph. most areas received less than 0.25 inch of rain
yesterday, and many areas received less than 0.10 inch, keeping
potential fuel sources relatively dry.

residents are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential
ignition sources, such as machinery, cigarettes or matches. if
dry grasses and tree litter begin to burn, the fire will have the
potential to spread quickly.

for more information about wildfire danger, burn restrictions,
and wildfire prevention and education, please visit your state
forestry or environmental protection website.
