* temperatures...102 to 106 degrees.

* timing...beginning friday afternoon and again saturday 
  afternoon through early evening. temperatures will recover 
  friday night.

* impacts...the heat can cause heat stress during outdoor exertion
  or extended exposure, especially for heat sensitive groups.
  those on certain medications, the very young or the eldery may
  be more susceptible to these events than the general 
  population. also those without effective cooling should exercise
  caution. 

precautionary/preparedness actions...

a heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. the hot temperatures will create a situation in which
heat illnesses are possible. drink plenty of fluids, stay in an
air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on
relatives and neighbors.

take extra precautions the next few days. to reduce risk during
outdoor work, the occupational safety and health administration
recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air
conditioned environments. anyone overcome by heat should be moved
to a cool and shaded location. heat stroke is an emergency, call
9 1 1.

* timing... 11 am to 8 pm saturday

* locations... most of the inland greater san francisco bay area
  (excluding coastal areas), inland monterey county, and inland
  san benito county. for the san francisco bay shoreline...main 
  heat risk is primarily from redwood city to cupertino.

* temperatures... temperatures will generally be 15 to 20 degrees
  above normal on saturday. widespread temperatures in the mid 90s
  to low 100s in the impacted areas are expected. the hottest
  inland locations such as pinnacles national park and the extreme
  inland portions of napa, sonoma, and possibly contra costa
  counties may surpass 105 degrees. the cities of san francisco 
  and oakland are excluded from this heat advisory, but will be 
  very warm on saturday with highs expected in the mid to upper 
  80s. san jose, which is included in the advisory, is forecast 
  reach the mid to upper 90s. for the san francisco bay shoreline,
  the main heat risks are generally from redwood city to 
  cupertino where triple digit temperatures are forecast, while 
  other areas of the shoreline will be noticeably cooler.

* impacts... moderate to high risk of heat related illness,
  especially for vulnerable populations during the day saturday.
  increased number of visitors to coastal communities and beaches
  to escape heat, potentially resulting in increased water 
  rescues. exacerbation of critical fire weather conditions, 
  especially in the north and east bay hills and mountains.

.strong high pressure will build into northern california late
this week bringing a period of hot temperatures across the
region. much of the central valley and portions of the foothills
are likely to top 100 degrees friday through sunday. there is
potential for heat-related illness to humans, pets, and livestock
with long outdoor exposure.

advisory, which is in effect from noon friday to 8 pm pdt sunday.
the excessive heat watch is no longer in effect. 

* temperature...100 to 108 degrees.

  with long outdoor exposure.
