kalamazoo mi-
1124 am est tue jan 21 2020

...a flood warning for an ice jam remains in effect until 130 pm est
thursday for central kalamazoo county...

at 1112 am est, emergency management reports that the ice jam
causing flooding along the kalamazoo river remains in place. the ice
jam is located just downstream of the king highway bridge which is
roughly 2 miles east of downtown kalamazoo. flooding is occurring
along the kalamazoo river from the king highway bridge east through
sprinkle road to merrill park. residents that live on roads that
back up to the river between the king highway bridge over the
kalamazoo river and downtown comstock should monitor conditions
closely as ice jams can cause rapidly fluctuating river levels.

temperatures will slowly warm over the next few days, with 40s
possible for highs by the end of the week. a slow warm up should
aid in stopping or slowing down ice formation in the river.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

water levels around ice jams are notoriously unpredictable, and can
change quickly with little or no warning. anyone living or recreating
near the river should pay close attention over the next few days and
prepare for additional changes in water levels.
