...moderate to heavy rains and colder conditions expected to
impact the holiday weekend over south central texas...
a dreary forecast continues tonight through sunday as hurricane
sandra supplies abundant moisture into texas. a strong cold front
will arrive this afternoon into early this evening...and will
extend rain chances through the remainder of the holiday weekend.
some rainfall could be heavy at times...especially today through
early saturday. minor flooding of poor drainage areas will
possibly impact holiday travels. rainfall amounts over the entire
weekend will average between 1 and 3 inches...with a few locations
receiving up to 4 inches.
the cold front will also bring a dramatic drop in temperatures
and gusty winds of 15 to 25 mph behind the front late friday
afternoon and evening. wind chill readings late friday night are
expected to fall into the 20s and 30s over the hill country and
areas adjacent to the balcones escarpment.
avoid areas that are prone to minor flooding which could
exacerbate holiday traffic problems. those planning to venture out
on today should prepare for rapidly falling temperatures...which
will only feel colder in the wind-driven rains. continue to
monitor the latest forecasts on this developing weather situation.
