...another surge of cold air for the weekend...
another arctic cold front is expected to move across the region
during this coming holiday weekend. the cold front is expected to
drop southward out of canada friday night and move through the

saturday will only be in the 30s...cooling to the 20s and low 30s on
sunday and monday. overnight lows this weekend will be mostly in the
teens...locally in the single digits in the mountains. there is a
possibility of some light snow accumulations saturday and saturday
night as snow levels drop. those traveling this weekend are urged to

...unseasonably mild weather to give way to much colder
temperatures and possible low elevation snow beginning tonight...
while southwest washington and northwest oregon have been
experiencing record setting warmth for the last several days...a
major change in the weather pattern is on the way. a strong cold
front will move through the region from north to south tonight.
while snow levels will initially be high...they will lower
dramatically behind the front. as a result...post frontal showers
may fall as a mix of rain and snow down to the valley floor late
tonight and saturday before the precipitation ends by saturday night.
travel will become increasingly difficult through the cascades and
eventually the foothills tonight as rain changes to snow and starts
to accumulate on area roads. an initial burst of heavy snow is
expected with the cold front tonight...then snow showers will
continue through much of saturday. several inches of new snow are
possible in these areas by the time snow tapers off saturday night.
offshore flow will then develop saturday night...with gusty east
winds continuing through sunday. areas in and around the western
columbia river gorge may see wind gusts of 50 to 70 mph at times
sunday. the easterly flow will also usher in a period of much colder
temperatures as it pulls in air from an arctic air mass on the east
side of the cascades.
