...first accumulating snow of the season likely monday afternoon
through tuesday...

a weather system will move into the area from the northwest
spreading snow and snow showers over the region starting monday
afternoon. periods of snow showers will then continue monday night
and into tuesday as the storm system moves slowly east. snow
levels will be near 500 feet monday afternoon...so some rain could
mix in at times in the lowest basins and valleys. precipitation will
change to all snow by sunset monday. monday's evening commute and
tuesday's morning commute could feature snow covered and slick
roads...even in the lower columbia basin and surrounding valleys.
total snow accumulation monday afternoon through tuesday is forecast
to range from 1 to 2 inches. temperatures will be in the mid 30s
monday afternoon before falling into the 20s and lower 30s monday
night and tuesday. if you are planning to travel during this time
be prepared for potential winter driving conditions.

...potential for icy roads and sidewalks tonight...

temperatures are cooling to freezing this evening. any remaining
moisture on surfaces from todays rain may freeze and result in
slick conditions. road surface temperatures in most areas should
be above freezing, but can not rule out the possibility of patchy
black ice forming on the roads tonight, especially for the higher
elevations of the coast range where many locations are already
reporting below freezing temperatures. some sidewalks may become
slick too.

use caution if driving tonight with patchy black ice possible on
the roadways.
