"I won a new, still-factory-wrapped, red, next-year's, Ecstasy in '92 or '93. The SOB refused to give it to me despite our written contract."

No doubt, you must have exposed the poor devil to your most deep seated feelings. A heavy dose of isobars' rants would certainly turn anybody off.

This thread shows how long it takes for the WS populace to recognize how good some equipment is. The 2008 and 2009 stuff available new is pretty damn assume. Exocet X-Wave 105 Pro, Exocet Cross 106 Pro are fab. As are Fanatic Freewave 95 and 105. Mistral Syncro RD's and 2009 Energy's....

Or it might just be that we're riding custom stuff like I said. My current
custom is on it's 4th season, and it's not showing any heal dents or
fractures. I have been wanting to get a ride on one of those Syncros,
though because the overall planform looks very similar to my custom
(and it would be a lot lighter) I'd be more interested in an 80 ltr version.

If you mean the best board in every condition, the Downwinder at the Gorge is the only event that always includes a lot of different conditions in one nonstop race. Worth noting how successful a Windsurfer has been in that event.

My old favorite is a Fox (Donnie Bauers) glass board about 8'5 and uncertain volume. I have no idea how old it is. It handles psycho chop with remarkable ease.

I bought it used. It has quirky custom graphics; on the bottom is a potato chip with a bite taken out of it. On top is a white border all around the board with the words "bite me" repeated.

If this was your board once, it's alive and well and still sailing in NJ and Hatteras. Very Happy

Fun topic.

Best board, nothing subjective about this....

Yup - high wind, that gorge bonzer, 5 fin animal-thing. Wow, if anyone is selling one, let me know.

My RRD 255 72l - very controlled board, good in waves, swell, etc. Never had a board I've enjoyed jumping with as much.

Then the Screamer - holy cow. That changed the sport. Sold mine years ago, but that was the board that got me in foot straps, in the harness lines, in a Vanagon, in a divorce, in over my head at work. It's got to be on the hall of fame.

Almost every new board I've had for the last 20 years has been better than the last. Boards have gotten better! My current board, a Mistral Beast 68 (2006, I think) is great! So much fun in the Gorge, 2.8m2 to 4.2m2. Quick to plane, fast, great to jibe. Mess up a jibe on this board and you still don't get wet; it won't let you fall.

Cheers to that, rwarb! I completely agree. And have tested the theory, too, by occasionally jumping on the old "best board ever" whenever I see one at the beach and the owner is kind enough to let me reminisce for a run or two. It's like re-watching your favorite movie from when you were 10 years old. "What the hell?! Why did I enjoy watching this back then??" Of course, it was all we knew back then. But now, we know so much more....

No wonder the planing jibe was the holy grail of windsurfing...

oh- forgot my submission- '09 Tabou Pocket 80. Best. Board. Ever.

That, and a mid 90s Open Ocean. But that was back in the day.
