|
Beautiful sunny, 100% clear, electric blue sky, 64F (air & water), and crankin' NW wind, 25-35 mph w/higher gusts all day. I took the afternoon off and sailed till I couldn't hold on anymore.
(Rant) So here's the part that really really sucks: such an epic/perfect day and I'm the ONLY ONE OUT!!! In fact, I'm the only human I can see on the whole lake....shore line....parking lot....anywhere. I might as well be sailing on the moon...or in the middle of the ocean. The main thing is, it's WAY more fun to sail when there's other people out, even if they're total newbs or people I don't know....way....more....fun. The other thing is, we don't get conditions that favor working aeriel freestyle, like starboard forwards and backies very often, so I really really wanna go for it, but should anything happen....there will be NO rescue...period. No one will see me if I'm hurt, no one will see me if I'm unconscious, no one will come help me with busted gear, hell, if I'm drowned, I probably wouldn't be found for a day or two! This is a pretty big lake, and a highway goes over the dam, but that will do little good when you're a speck two miles away. This is the reason I like kiters: I don't have to sail alone. rant\ _________________ Kansas City |

I hear ya, and feel the same way often in my location. Is it a similar situation on windy weekends? |

You're right,. but sailing alone in big water boosts the adrenaline factor, so there are benefits. Besides, if we get knocked out, we're gonna drown anyway unless there happens to be someone very near AND they see the problem. I say wear your armor, don't sail farther offshore than you can swim, and enjoy the day. Most people are having too much fun to even notice someone in trouble anyway, unless they pass very nearby. |

Weekends always have more people, and when it's warm, there's usually more people, and in the past.....there's more people. _________________ Kansas City |
