Last time I found a board orphaned at a Gorge site at dusk, I left it at the local dealer's shop early the next morning. The owner was overjoyed to hear "Yes" to his question, "Did anyone find a board left on the beach last night?"

That would be Big Winds in this case.

Ironically, I have never witnessed much puffing at Cheap Beach. But I have at the Hatchery. Despite legalization, I don't think public puffing has caught on much yet in non-urban areas (yes, I know it's still illegal in public, but I've witnessed unashamed puffers in public parks, on the street, etc. in Seattle and Portland). In the non-urban areas, people are still ashamed and shamed for it, I think. There is an obvious cultural differential.

From a health perspective, I'd rather see more puffing (in moderation) and less boozing. It's also a potential performance enhancer (bronchodilator), which is great for those who can get winded from aerobic surf-sessions on the swell.

Maybe the dopamine from a good session is responsible for the memory lapses. It's like you're blissed-out and don't care anymore about much because you're in la-la-land. It's a very real high. Cheap Beach also gets gear all over the place, so it's also easy to misplace or forget. And there are also the very responsible and considerate windsurfers with other important stuff to do. So they park, get the session, and then leave promptly, sometimes in a great hurry to get to work, pick up kids, groceries, etc. Incidentally, if anybody dared to park a motorhome crosswise at Cheap, the cops would be called and it would eventually be towed after some serious discussion; this is private property.

Good on robnchip for posting the find.

Not at the Hatchery, which is federal property.

Just because it's illegal doesn't mean it doesn't happen ;*)
