Rick Barry has a slight edge in scoring average and rebounds. Accuracy and assists? It's not even close.
shooting accuracy
Barry 0.449
Curry 0.473
3-point shooting
Barry 0.330
Curry 0.441
Assists per game
Barry 5.1
Curry 6.9
And I said he's even better this year. Scoring average is up to 34.6 points per game so far, assists down a bit--6.1 (of course that's in part because the whole team is making assists), shooting percentage is up to 0.514, 3 point acccuracy is about the same--0.442. Since Curry's rebounding stats have gone up to 5.2, he's narrowed that gap. If he keeps this up he will be the greatest shooter the game has ever seen. |

Part of one season does not make for career averages.
The NBA initiated the three point shot in Rick Barry's last year where he played part time with a bad knee. He did shoot some in the ABA at the beginning of his career.
Of course Curry has more assists, he's a point guard.
Let's not anoint anyone the greatest ever anything until he has played a few more years at least than Curry. |

You have to laugh at this:
Quote: | Of course Curry has more assists, he's a point guard. |
Don't be ridiculous. Draymond Green has nearly 7 assists per game. I doubt that Rick Barry actually passed the ball that often.
Rick Barry was a great player, one of the top fifty of all time on this list: http://www.basketball-reference.com/awards/nba_50_greatest.html
He was a great driver early in his career when he was in the ABA, and became a very good shooter. But he was a ball hog and a prima donna. The year that the Warriors were dangerous was actually the year after they won the title. Gus Williams was a tremendous rookie, Jamal Wilkes shot the ball nearly as well as Barry, and Phil Smith was a reliable penetrating guard with a sweet pull up jumper. They were known for ten and twelve point runs and tenacious defense. |

OK
Let me rephrase ... He's the best shooter I've ever seen..A talent the NBA has never seen...6 '3" a buck 90, impossible to guard with unlimited range, and passing skills that are hard to fathom... A freak |

Last night--37 minutes, 39 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists. I feel sorry for those who don't watch. |

Different players and eras. I am certainly not arguing that Curry has eclipsed Jordan--or for that matter that anyone not named Wilt was the best player of all time. Bill Russell the most winning center, Magic and Michael in a class of their own. Dr. J and Dominique were also legendary, despite not winning titles. But for now.... |
