Overall the clamp holds very well. But the mounting bracket failed while sailing along. Good think I had the float and saw it drop.

I had the Mast Hero fail once during a crash. The float save the camera, it's a must for mast mounts.
I have used the Clew-View hundreds of times, and never had problems with it. |

I like the Mast Hero design and light weight, but yes, it will definitely pop off your mast in a solid wipeout. Mine came off on a forward, where my mast tip hit the water pretty hard, but continued through. As I sailed away, I looked up and smiled at the.....non-existant camera! I tacked really fast and looked around, and sure enough, there it was, floating away. Thank God for the bright orange floaty, those things really work!

I used a fishing line leader as a tether with mine. They weigh zero and hardly add 5 seconds to mounting time. They come in many sizes, strengths, lengths, and materials. SS runs a buck or two; titanium $13. Any fishing store carries them.

I have a couple of velcro straps that I wrap around the mast hero to keep it in place. That seems to work. _________________ Kansas City |

always run a tether.... the floaty although keeps it afloat....if it comes off when you are not looking....chances are you will not find it...or at least will waste a good amount of time looking for it. (some will get lucky)... |

Totally agree. I'm one of the lucky ones. Searched for a good 30 minutes figuring in tide & wind before I found it bobbing on the shore.
