Hi Gang,

Saturday, April 27: At the bottom is a new animation showing how the shape of the North Pacific High is dramatically impacting the winds in the Bay Area, Southern California and The Gorge.

It is easy to think that your wind is created by local events like just the pressure gradient to Sacramento or the desert but in reality, distant events are crucial in making the winds at every site near the west coast.

Mike

From yesterday: Here is a blog about yesterday's winds and how an eddies position relative to gaps in the coast range determine what sites blow and which are shut down.

By their nature eddies are unpredictable and they often move after our 11:30 AM forecast really changing the wind focus IF the eddy is weak. So I give some hints about doing your own updates when there is a weak eddy.

Yep, "cutoff low, weatherman's woe", with apologies to George Fishbeck. Last weekend, the forecast was calling for very strong winds for the central coast on this weekend, well that forecast didn't last long.

Hmmmm.... Three Eddies. And then, today, a double Eddy on the way to The Golden Gate.

They seem to be multiplying....
