Like Thom said, DHL have some weird rules. My boards have come from HoodRiver on DHL, and I’ve spoken to them in Portland.

Have you tried UPS Freight? Unlike regular UPS, they specialize larger freight shipments. I used them shipping an Open Ocean board from Washington State to Oxnard, CA, but that was in 2008. Also, to save some money, I picked up the shipment from their Oxnard commercial freight hub. The cost for the shipment was about $140. |

When I went to the DHL website and started to fill out the quote request form it asked me for the origin zip code then the destination address. As soon as I filled out the info and put a US zip code it immediately switched to a different page where it stated "Domestic Service not Available". I can't do anything about the outcome.
Forward Air doesn't have a terminal in Savannah.

If Amtrak doesn't work for you maybe try Forward Air ground shipping. That worked pretty well for a board shipped to me (VA to CA).
See this previous thread. |

I still was interested in that SuperGu in Savannah and I ran across an ad for UShip. I filled out there request for prices sheet with the hope that I would get several carriers willing to haul the 25 pound board and bag to Corpus Christi. A week went by and I did not get a single quote to transport it. Not encouraging. |

I have a customer in New Orleans who bought a used Naish sail from me. He is just getting into windsurfing so I offered to help him find good reliable equipment for his first windsurfing kit. When it came to the board, I found a board that might work for him in Dallas, so I contacted Amtrak to see if they could transport the board from Dallas to New Orleans. I was told by the Amtrak lady that their railcars are unable to transport cargo such as a windsurfing board on the train leaving Dallas bound for Ft. Worth, Austin, and San Antonio. But, the Train from LA to El Paso, San Antonio, Houston, and New Orleans was capable of transporting such items. |

any local surf or windsurf shops? Maybe even a bicycle shop? Those guys ship big stuff all the time. The local shops in my area offer free shipping on anything over a certain price, typically $50 bucks. And that includes boards. If you are shipping to Corpus, call Worldwinds and ask them their advice, they may even let you ship it to them and that may help a bit. |
