Are chest harnesses (worn by some windsurfers in the 80's) still available? I can't seem to find them anywhere. Now that I'm into the wing I feel that the higher hook placement would be more suitable as the pressure exerted from the wing is from the 9 to 12 o'clock position. I think that it might be easier to hook and unhook at chest level.

I had a boat upholstery shop fabricate one for me before they were commercially available. If you can't find one in somebody's attic, that's an idea.

Ahhhh ... simplicity at its finest, and it might turn a liability into an asset. (After all, isn't that usually where the damned things end up anyway? Smile )

While I was searching for a chest harness, Google coughed up this timely gem: "Portland for sale". No surprise there. Sad

The chest harnesses was a killer for my back. While the it was the first harness design I used, I quickly moved on when seat harnesses came out.

Overall though, I'm of the mind that one of the biggest downsides to both chest and waist harnesses is suddenly getting pitched forward and being rag-dolled from the middle of your back into the impact zone. I much rather get pitched from the seat of my pants, but I have to admit that I'm an old guy that doesn't need to be twisted up.
