Fill the screw hole with JB Weld epoxy, let the JB Weld setup for about 45minutes wrap a strap screw with Teflon tape (one wrap) insert the screw into the hole and let dry over night, the next day back the screw out and its fixed. The JB Weld epoxy creates a "like plastic" bond to the original foot strap insert, the screw creates a mold of the treads, and the Teflon tape acts like a mold release. Done it many times with a 100% success rate.
This was not my idea, I hate to reinvent the wheel it was the go to method of repairing stripped foot strap screw inserts back-in-the-day (80's)! and still works great today.

I posted on this topic back in 2013 but the supporting pictures were lost. Well I found them and cleaned up the post so it may be of help. This is an important post because others added some key info which should be of help so be sure to read the whole string.
