The Justice Department is said to be investigating Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida over a possible sexual relationship he had with a 17-year-old girl.

Mr. Gaetz, a Republican and a close ally of former President Trump, is being investigated over whether he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old and paid for her to travel with him, according to three people briefed on the matter.
Investigators are examining whether Mr. Gaetz violated federal sex trafficking laws, the people said. A variety of federal statutes make it illegal to induce someone under 18 to travel over state lines to engage in sex in exchange for money or something of value.

A good guy with a gun--gets shot. Myths of the paranoid right unaltered.

After a gunman ambushed and killed a police officer last week in a midday attack in a Denver suburb, most witnesses scattered, ducking behind cars as they ran for safety. But 40-year-old John Hurley moved toward the shooter, pulling out his concealed handgun and firing at the attacker.
After the gunman fell, Hurley picked up the rifle the shooter had been carrying. Moments later, police pulled up to the scene and one of the responding officers shot and killed Hurley with the rifle still in hand.
“The threat to our officers and our community was stopped by a hero named Johnny Hurley,” Arvada Police Chief Link Strate said in a Friday statement, releasing more details of the June 21 shooting that left three people dead. “Johnny’s actions can only be described as decisive, courageous and effective in stopping further loss of life.” |

Alex Jones, the right-wing conspiracy theorist and founder of Infowars, is responsible for all damages in two lawsuits stemming from his false claims that the Sandy Hook school shooting was a “giant hoax,” a judge ruled this week.
District Judge Maya Guerra Gamble of Travis County, Tex., issued default judgments Monday against Jones and Infowars after he did not comply with court orders to give information in a pair of 2018 lawsuits brought against him by families of two children killed in the 2012 massacre. Jones repeatedly failed to hand over documents and evidence to the court supporting his damaging and erroneous claims that the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., which killed 26 people, 20 of whom were young children, was a “false flag” operation carried out by “crisis actors.”
Gamble’s ruling, which was unsealed Thursday, lambasted Jones and his website’s parent company, Free Speech Systems, for having “intentionally disobeyed” the court’s requests and showing “flagrant bad faith and callous disregard” in not turning over documents related to this and other lawsuits filed against him. Jones has already lost several defamation lawsuits related to his Sandy Hook falsehoods and was previously ordered to pay tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees to families who have sued him. Nine families have sued him over the years. |

When Kyle Rittenhouse walks, the real lesson is how American gun laws are out of control.
The story should not be his innocence, but a sad human tragedy of antiquated gun laws. We live in a society which allows gangs of teenagers, pretending to be war soldiers, arming themselves with AR-15’s to roam American cities and towns at will. Completely legal as if it’s just some lazy walk to Dairy Queen with your kid.
Picture a scene where a family of 4 is walking through the park to meet up with some other parents so their kids can have a play date on the picnic table. In comes 30 teenagers dressed in combat fatigues, geared out to the max with pepper spray, stun guns and AR-15’s slung on their shoulders. They casually walk by as if all is normal? This is not normal. This is a way fucked in the head society. |

I kind of feel sorry for Kyle, kind of. Sure he’s young and dumb but he’s a victim of society. A society we should all be extremely disgusted with. Kyles got a non-developed brain, all teenagers do. He has bad parents, certainly a bad Mom and gun laws that support and promote his extreme stupidity. He and his buddies like to play. Like to play with guns. They sling AR-15’s over their shoulders to role play cops, army men and medics. A good game. They were not protecting American from foreign forces as our soldiers do, but exploiting their rights given to them by society to flaunt guns, to flaunt power, to play army man, to self defend against other stupid people with guns. A stupid argument. A viscous circle.
Our society glorifies guns, because its legal. Because it’s cool. Kids, even adults can become powerful not with words, not with intelligence or physical strength but with guns. The presence of the gun is power because we, in this society are deemed weak without it.
Kyles role playing buddies carried Big guns. Guns which are perfectly legal for kids to carry in many states. In Wisconsin, kids can carry long rifles even younger than Kyle on any street in the state. In gangs or by the thousands if wanted.
I pity the jurors who have to take in the 100’s of processes regarding theses charges. A daunting task. Why not make it easier for them and just say kids cant have guns. Or kids cant bring guns to public spaces. Or even better, human beings cant bring guns to any public space. How hard is that? Guns are for homes. Guns are for sport. Guns are for shooting ranges. Guns are for hunting. Most all hunters I know are the most responsible gun owners and conservationists I know. They know their species and want them protected so they have more species to hunt. Sounds absurd but it’s true.
This is 2021 civilized America where we are waiting for our container ship to unload from China so we can drive our electric SUV to Target to pick up a shower curtain. This is not Tombstone Arizona 1881. Cops can take care of bad guys as long as bas guys dont have fucking guns. All hell would break loose if guns were allowed in a Bear- Packer game. It’s not allowed because people are stupid. The right wing always complains its not the guns, its the people! Well, no shit Sherlock, people are fucking dumb as rocks. |
