A valid point. Those of us that have been doing this for a long time occasionally get caught with too little wind, on a small board (under a 100L) with a small fin. We either head in or wait for more wind, but either way, heading up wind, running down wind, or a beam reach on a small tippy slogging board can be a challenge, but its an essential skill. |

I think the most important question is, where do you want to go with your windsurfing. If your happy cruising around in lite winds and have no intention of progressing beyond that point, leave it on, have fun and enjoy. Since you had a board that could do that already but bought something a bit more sporty, tells me that you want to do more. If so, take the front fin off. You really do not need it. As mention, you need to learn to balance and sail your new ride in lite wind in order to progress. I also would tell you to sail your new board as often as you can with the dagger board retracted. learn to go up wind and balance with out it. If you start getting down wind, put the dagger down and sail home.. These are basic skills that we all had to learn.
Learn to beach start. Its a very easy skill but a necessary one. The number one skill and the key to high wind sailing is a water start. Its not that difficult to learn and will open up the world of windsurfing to you. None of this is magic. Just got to make the effort. Go some where warm and windy like Bird Island in April where you csn get lessons in a shallow safe environment. Either way enjoy the ride. |
