Cobo,

Ever heard of diamond piers? See below. Can you see any benefits or drawbacks (structurally) to using this concept on a 20-30 degree slope for a deck instead of traditional concrete piers? It’s approved by code here in WI. Would be easier and make less a mess on our hill, just wondering if it might sacrifice stability over time.

I am not familiar with this product.

But, my first concern would be what happens to the support due to influences in the active zone of the soil. That is the area near the surface that is subject to moisture changes and frost heave. Sometimes, this active soil will cause embedded elements to “work” out of the soil. So, not sure this would not be subject to that sort of movement.

That said, it might be appropriate for a deck which would not be as negatively influenced by minor seasonal movements in support as a conditioned and finished space would be.

I am curious to see would my geotechnical engineering consultant would say about this system.
