Having read the New Yorker article, I find that no Republicans, other than Theodore Roosevelt, have been champions for breaking up monopolies and trusts that crush the heart of a competitive rural America. I have to wonder why the majority of rural America deeply supports Donald Trump and the Republican party.

Culture war. Obama was hated as much for his education as his color and politics. The offshoring and automation of manufacturing hit men without a college degree hardest.

Hi Steve,

It's because they are angry, and he knew how to monopolize on that anger.
As to why they are angry, I have my opinions, which I'd share if there's interest,
but it's only conjecture.

It’s a slow death. Most aren’t aware. Been going on since the end of ww2. Politicians politicize and amplify the divide.
