Went out today in offshore winds. Nice to have a kelp bed downwind of you should your gear decide to take a ride on its own to go visit Monterey. The kelp would act as a stop net. Luckily mine did not decide to even attempt that. However, it was disappointing that I could not point into the wind enough to ride many waves. But, as always, nice to be out.

Windsurfed Pleasure Point again yesterday (no wind up the coast). Wind measured 2 to 8 knots before rigging. Ocean fairly flat between very decent sized sets.
In the pic below, truth be told, I did not ride that wave. Surfers were in the path should I had taken it and the wind had gotten very light. I backed out and fell in shortly after. Had to duck dive my sail through the rest of the set.
However, I did get a lot of good waves, but all were between 2nd peak and Jack's which is out of the view of any webcam.

Very light wind at Candlestick. We have a road construction crew here today -one guy works while the other four watch.

So how do you access it and what is the general state of things there now?

You have to park inside the Candlestick Point State Park. The expressway is still close but looping around the old ballpark to get there is not too bad. The park closes at 5PM. Also, you have to carry your gears a little farther.

I was at the Stick for the first time this year on Sunday 3/6 and I am, quite frankly, less comfortable sailing here. You have to park much further from the launch and may no longer have the safety net of having other windsurfers or foilers parked next to you. I feel less secure while on the water as someone may see you are out there sailing all by your lonesome and your car/van, wallet, phone, and $10,000 worth of equipment is more vulnerable for the taking. Let's face the facts..the Stick is not a gentrified Pollyanna Park..it's in the hood. Fortunately I was there on the weekend and lots of families present. That said, I had a good session on a 6.2 sail and my new JP slalom board in 13-16 mph winds. Robert was on a 4.2 with his JP foilboard. Hopefully the City will open up the roadway so we can park close to the launch because walking your windsurf gear 40 yds is no fun for this old geezer Sad
