I mount my boards on a rack belly down facing the back for the wind
with NO bag
and love the hint about the twist in the straps to stop strap songs lol Smile

The board's V doesn't matter if you rack your board belly up. I can't imagine mounting them belly down, because that just shoves the forward end of the load way up into the air.

Oh, boy... OK
I was speaking about the belly up and the nose down.
When the front strap goes across V there are two gaps between the strap and the board. The air flows under the strap there and the strap vibrates at the certain car speeds turning the board into a drum machine.
As some one suggested, I might make a twist or two on the strap. It would be the fasters and the easiest solution.

If it is literally the strap, it is the AIRFLOW to the sides of the board and whatever the strap is attached to. Put a half twist in the strap so that it no longer acts like a reed in a wind instrument, no more vibration.

Hah! This should be the simplest solution. Thanks a lot, I'll check it out.

Some very low cost bags listed on these pages compared to usual bag prices: https://progressivesports.com/windsurf/used/bags

A wall bad will allow for the thickness of the board. I have had very good luck with Epic bags...

I think if you had padding that had covered up the gap due to the V you would have no sound there, but from the sides of the board and where you tie the board down that definitely can cause vibration noise if there is no twist in the strap. Sometimes its not an issue because the strap twists when it loops around rack attachment.
I always put the belly (bottom) of the board down, stern of board to the front, so that the straps will not potentially dig into the rails of the board. When I had a fragile extra-light construction Mistral Screamer from ages ago, dealer told me never to transport the board bottom up with straps pressing against rails. Since then I never transport my good boards bottom up. Inflatables, Bics no problem.

Have you checked out Windance's selection of used board bags?
There are a few 245s and 8-footers that may fit at
https://www.windance.com/Used-Gear-Used-Board-Bags/ .
They'd be happy to measure them for you.

Another idea: If you still need one by Memorial Day, I can look for one at our next Gorge swap meet that weekend. I'd need minimum and maximum dimensions and your condition requirements (they range from excellent to poor). They also range from thinly padded sun protection to gorillaproof. I always check the zippers, and lubrication can usually fix even the most corroded zippers.

I wanted to thank you for this tip. It works perfectly and takes only 2 seconds to implement. No more noise! Smile
