"As of August 1, 2022, sailing equipment will no longer be accepted on United and United Express flights."

https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fly/travel/baggage/sports-equipment.html

I'm curious if anyone has tried taking windsurfing equipment on United Airlines since Aug 1, 2022? They still accept SUPs.

I'm guessing I could bring my gear to the airport and tell them it is a SUP or surfboard.

You better have some really small gear. The linear length allowed by United on regular flights is only 292 cm; that is width, length & height added together. On Express flights it's even shorter at 203.

225 cm is probably the boards length. My Skate is 228 cm long but also 64 cm wide so a linear length of 292 cm(228+64) not counting how tall the board is so obviously my board is too big as just length & width already add up to 292 cm not counting height or the thickness of a board bag.

I did take a 8"5" SUP late last August and it got the kings treatment with special personal handling SFO- OGG and free! It has been many years since I took windsurf equipment, but when I did on a yearly basis it was always a crap shoot if they looked in the bag to verify or not.
