Trump finally gets the news he’s been DREADING

https://www.rawstory.com/trump-tax-cuts-2658997603/

Trump's big boost in 2018 income largely came from a 'final windfall' from his late father: NYT

Quote:
Information released by the House Ways and Means Committee this week showed that, after years of reporting no taxable income, former President Donald Trump reported raking in a net $24 million in 2018.

However, the New York Times reports that this surprise return to personal profitability had little to do with a revival in the fortunes of his struggling businesses.

Rather, it seems that Trump benefited from a transaction related to the inheritance he received from his father, the late real estate mogul Fred Trump.

"His year in the black appears to have resulted largely from the final windfall of the vast inheritance that financed much of his business career — more than $14 million in gains from the sale of his father’s 1970s investment in the Brooklyn housing development of Starrett City," notes the report.

Previous Times reporting on Trump's taxes has shown that he spent decades racking up enormous business losses, which often resulted in him owing no federal income taxes year after year.

And as the Times shows, Trump's year of profitability was short-lived, as just two years later he once again reporting having no taxable income.

'Hillary Clinton was right all along' about Donald Trump: MSNBC's Mika

Quote:
Donald Trump has been fighting the release of his tax returns since he first positioned himself as a presidential candidate, and MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski said their long-awaited disclosure proves he was always lying about them.

Trump claimed the returns couldn't be released during his 2016 campaign -- and throughout his presidency -- because they were under audit, but the House Ways and Means Committee concluded the IRS failed to audit his taxes, as required under a mandatory presidential program, for the first two years of his term and did not complete complete any of them.

"It proves that Hillary Clinton, was right all along," Brzezinski said. "Nancy Pelosi was right all along, Chuck schumer was right all along. The Democrats were right all along. Reporting from the New York Times was right all along, Washington Post, too, was 100 percent correct all along. Donald Trump was not under audit. Donald Trump was lying. He was desperate to hide the truth from Americans."

"That truth, that far from being a shrewd businessman, he was, in fact, the biggest loser out of the 300 million Americans who filed their taxes with the IRS," she added. "The man lost more money than any other American, at a time when he was writing "The Art of the Deal," this was happening, and worse than that, the fact his own Treasury Department under the bumbling hands of Steve Mnuchin refused to audit the president after Trump got into the White House -- that's usually done. So that lie continued and continued and continued until last night."

Trump installed a loyalist as IRS commissioner in 2018 who had publicly defended his refusal to make public his tax returns, and that former official will likely be called to testify before the U.S. Senate after Ways and Means chairman Richard Neal (D-MA) called for legislation to codify mandatory audits for presidents.

"Republicans have definitely laid their bet -- they stand, some of them, by Donald Trump through dinners with Kanye West and white nationalists and stolen documents and saying the Constitution should be, whatever, redacted, gotten rid of," Brzezinski said. "It doesn't matter, but he was -- it does prove he was lying from the get-go. Will it move the meter?"

Attorney General has uncovered that former president Donald Trump had approximately $19.8 million in undisclosed debt owed to a foreign creditor.

Quote:

The debt was uncovered after New York attorney Letitia James obtained documents from The Trump Organization earlier this year. The records showed a previously unreported liability of $19.8 million listed as “L/P Daewoo.”

The debt was reportedly owed to South Korean company, Daewoo – a company with links to North Korea. The documents reveal that the debt has stayed relatively the same at $19.8 million between 2011 and 2016.

However, five months into Trump’s presidency, the balance of the debt owed dropped to $4.3 million and was then paid off shortly after that. The documents do not specify precisely who paid off the loan, but state, “Daewoo was bought out of its position on July 5, 2017”.

This debt did appear on The Trump Organization’s internal; paperwork but was not disclosed in Trump’s public disclosure of finances.

Debate clip resurfaces of Trump saying he paid ‘millions’ in federal income taxes in years he only paid $750

Quote:

While Donald Trump’s tax returns have been an issue since he put himself forward as a potential Republican candidate in 2015, the issue was still front and centre when he stood for re-election in 2020.

The release of his tax returns for the years 2015 to 2020 by the House Ways & Means Committee has shed new light on claims he made during that campaign, as a resurfaced video clip highlights.

On 29 September of 2020, he faced off against Joe Biden in the first presidential debate at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Moderator Chris Wallace, then of Fox News, now of CNN, specifically asked the then-president about his federal income taxes.

“I know that you pay a lot of other taxes but I’m asking you the specific question if you paid $750 in federal income taxes for each of those two years [2016 and 2017]?” asked Wallace.

“I paid millions of dollars in taxes, millions of dollars in income taxes,” replied Mr Trump, going on to say he paid $38m one year and $27m another.

Pressed further, as Mr Biden called for him to release his taxes, the then-president again said he paid millions of dollars in 2016 and 2017.

As we now know from the publication of his returns he in fact paid just $750 in federal income taxes for each of those years.

Mr Trump went on to tell Wallace at the debate that he did not want to pay taxes.

The amount of tax the former president paid during his time as a candidate and during his time in office is just one of the many details revealed by the publication of his personal and business returns.

Foreign bank accounts, a lack of charitable donations, and the former first lady’s modelling career are among the notable finds in the documents.

Trump drops appeal, ending legal fight over New York probe

Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) — Former President Donald Trump has abandoned efforts to revive his federal lawsuit against New York Attorney General Letitia James — the second time he’s halted legal action against her after a judge last week fined him and his lawyers nearly $1 million for filing frivolous cases.

Trump’s lawyers and James’ office agreed Tuesday to a stipulation ending an appeal that had sought to reverse a judge’s decision to dismiss the lawsuit. Trump, a Republican, sued James, a Democrat, in December 2021 in an attempt to block her from investigating him and his businesses.

Trump sued James again in the wake of her September lawsuit alleging that he and his company, the Trump Organization, misled banks and others about the value of his assets, including golf courses and hotels bearing his name, in a practice she dubbed “The art of the steal"— a twist on the title of his book “The Art of the Deal.”

Trump dropped that lawsuit last week after a federal judge in Florida, Donald M. Middlebrooks, accused him of a “pattern of abuse of the courts” for filing frivolous lawsuits for political purposes, including what he said was a bogus lawsuit against Trump’s 2016 rival Hillary Clinton and others.

James’ case against Trump is pending. She wants a judge to fine Trump $250 million and permanently ban him from doing business in the state. The trial is scheduled for October.

“I am pleased that Donald Trump has withdrawn both of his pending actions against my office,” James said in a statement Tuesday. “As we have shown all along, we have a legitimate legal case against him and his organization, and we cannot be bullied or dissuaded from pursuing it.”

Trump’s lawyer, Alina Habba, said the appeal “was voluntarily withdrawn for strategic purposes.”

U.S. District Judge Brenda Sannes threw out Trump’s original lawsuit against the New York attorney general in May 2022, allowing her civil investigation to proceed. Sannes wrote at the time that case law bars federal judges from interfering in state-level investigations and that there was no evidence to support his contention that James targeted him out of political animus.

Trump’s since-withdrawn second lawsuit, filed in November, sought to prevent James from having any oversight over the family trust that controls his company. Trump initially filed that case in state court in Florida, but it was later moved to federal court.

Trump’s Florida complaint rehashed some claims from his dismissed federal lawsuit against her, irritating Middlebrooks, who wrote in a December order: “This litigation has all the telltale signs of being both vexatious and frivolous.”

This week has been rife with Trump-related legal developments.

On Monday, court officials say, the Trump Organization paid a $1.6 million penalty levied as part of its tax fraud conviction last month in Manhattan for helping executives dodge personal income taxes on lavish job perks.

On Tuesday, a judge in Georgia heard arguments as he weighs the public release of a special grand jury’s final report on its investigation into possible illegal interference in the 2020 presidential election by Trump and his allies. He said he would keep the report private for now.

Trump in Even More Legal Hot Water After Lying to Judge

Quote:
Former President Donald Trump appears to have lied in sworn court records, opening him up to severe sanctions by a New York judge who has already lost his patience and threatened to punish him before.

Trump claimed he wasn’t the president of the Trump Organization during his four years at the White House, despite previously testifying that he was an “inactive president.” And he claimed that he didn’t have a financial stake in a partnership with the real estate company Vornado, even though he previously testified that he did.

On Tuesday, the New York Attorney General’s Office asked Justice Arthur F. Engoron to intervene quickly to ensure that the former president still faces a trial later this year that could bankrupt his company.

New York AG Letitia James sued the Trump family and their real estate empire for at least $250 million last year, the end result of a three-year investigation that documented how the Trumps have routinely faked property values to score better bank loans and cheat taxes. The civil lawsuit threatens to yank the company’s credentials, seize its bank accounts, and choke off its access to any banks in New York City—the global finance capital.

The Trumps, desperate to avoid the collapse of their company, initially tried to disqualify the AG and stop her from accessing company records. But when Judge Engoron threatened to sanction lawyers for incessantly making “frivolous” legal arguments, the Trumps last week were finally forced to answer James’ lawsuit with actual defenses.

The result was a legal document that read like a joke, with Trump attorney Alina Habba going as far as claiming there is formally no such thing as the “Trump Organization’—a ridiculous position, given that it’s a billion-dollar company Trump used to build his reputation over decades.

On Tuesday, the AG’s office called her out on that too, noting that in November she began a court hearing before this very judge by introducing herself as an attorney for that company.

“Good morning, Your Honor. Alina Habba for Trump Organization, Donald Trump, et cetera,” she said on Nov. 22 in a New York City courtroom.

The AG’s office also pointed out how Trump, in a separate case involving how his security guards beat up protesters in Manhattan, testified behind closed doors that while at the White House he “was an inactive president and now I’m active again.” The testimony shows that he remained atop the Trump Organization.

“Was there a period of time that you were not the president of the Trump Organization?” asked the protester’s lawyer, Benjamin Dictor.

“Well, I wasn’t active during the time I was at 1600,” Trump said, referring to the White House address. “I would say that I was an inactive president and now I’m active again.”

By contrast, in court documents last week, Trump swore that he “specifically denies the definition of ‘Trump Organization’” and “each and every allegation” that he was ever the inactive president of the company during four years in public office.

At the bottom of the 300-page document, Trump signed his name using his usual thick, black marker beneath an affirmation that says his list of responses “is true to the best of [his] own current knowledge.”

Lying in court documents is a red line that could result in hefty fines and serious blowback in court.

In Tuesday’s filing, the lawyer at the AG’s office leading the case asked the judge to drag the Trumps into court again to punish them for pulling the stunt—and to not give them a second chance.

“The Court has already admonished defendants and their counsel for their continued invocation of meritless legal claims but exercised its discretion in not imposing such sanctions,

‘having made its point.’ It does not appear that this point was taken, however, and [AG’s office] would ask the court to renew the issue,” attorney Kevin Wallace wrote.

Video obtained by CBS News provides the first look at former President Donald Trump's deposition last summer in the New York attorney general's civil fraud investigation. Trump sat for questioning under oath on Aug. 10. After preliminary procedural questions from state Attorney General Letitia James, Trump makes an opening statement calling the probe "very unfair." In these excerpts, he then repeatedly takes the Fifth Amendment, refusing to answer any questions at all, including about his and his company's finances.

Law and Crime reports that a New York appellate court has upheld a contempt order against the former president for his past refusal to cooperate with James' probe of his business activities.

In its ruling, the court stated that Trump "prejudicially violated the lawful, clear mandate of the court, of which he had knowledge" when he delivered an inadequate response to James' subpoena last year.

Because of this, Trump will now have to pay a fine worth $110,000 to James' office.

The New York AG hailed the court's decision and said that it vindicated her decision to aggressively pursue the civil lawsuit against him that accused him of engaging in a fraudulent conduct spanning decades.

"Once again, the courts have ruled that Donald Trump is not above the law," she said. "For years, he tried to stall and thwart our lawful investigation into his financial dealings, but today’s decision sends a clear message that there are consequences for abusing the legal system. We will not be bullied or dissuaded from pursuing justice."

I mean why else would that tabloid do a catch and kill for the podophile and twice impeached convicted by a jury of being a sexual molesting compulsive liar. And the get some dna and see if it matched the dress in the other case... Note trump delayed the Carrol case so long and would not provide the DNA to see if it matched the stain on Carrols dress.

Manhattan DA's discovery list cites book accusing Trump of fathering another child

Quote:

Lost in the news that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's discovery list turned over to Donald Trump's lawyers contains a reference to an audio tape of a witness speaking with the former president, is a list of books the investigators appear to be relying upon -- and MSNBC legal analyst Lisa Rubin noted one curious inclusion.

As part of "automatic discovery" Bragg's office turned over the information related to Trump’s arrest and subsequent 34-count indictment over allegations he falsified business documents while trying to conceal a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels.

CBS reported, "some information, labeled 'Limited Dissemination Materials' by prosecutors, will only be available to Trump in the presence of his attorneys."

Reviewing the list, MSNBC's Rubin highlighted the fact that the books containing statements about the former president and his life before and during his presidency were included and one leapt out at her.

As she tweeted, "In New York state, a defendant is entitled to receive all witness testimony before the grand jury and any and all other witness statements provided to the relevant prosecutor’s office. But here, the Manhattan DA’s office also attached this two-page list of books," before adding, "Why? Because these books themselves may contain relevant witness statements. And it is quite a collection. Yes, it includes journalistic hits like those written by Maggie Haberman, Bob Woodward, Jon Karl, and

@KatyTurNBC, whose book on the 2016 campaign is listed."

Notable, she pointed out, was a book by Dino Sajudin, who once worked as a Trump World Tower doorman.

"But what really popped for me was a book by Dino Sajudin, a onetime Trump World Tower doorman who was paid by the National Enquirer’s parent company, American Media, for his story that Trump had a child out of wedlock with a concierge at that building," she wrote before asking, "As the New York Post notes here, Sajudin’s account has been vigorously denied by the woman in question. So is it on the list to show that AMI had a habit of catching and killing stories damaging to Trump? Or for other reasons?"

"In any event, I don’t know why Mr. Sajudin’s book is on the Manhattan DA’s discovery list, but I sure would like to find out. Watch this space," she tweeted before adding, "p.s. @KatiePhang’s memory FTW: She reminds me the payment to Dino Sajudin — and its mischaracterization in American Media’s books & records — is discussed in the DA’s statement of facts" with a screenshot that you can see below:
